Merlin, I gotta say, I'm so sad that I didn't find your channel sooner. I'm enjoying your creativity and ability so much. I'm 80 years old and never had the time or opportunity to do what you have done. I'm in awe of what you are able to do. I only wish that I was 50 years younger and lived in Havasu so that I could follow you around. I got sort of close to your rod building while selling tools for almost 40 years in So. Cal. I met a lot of great car builders but none that could do it all as you do. Even doing your own upholstery, WOW! I love that you use diesels in so many of your projects. Love them Cummins motors. I hope someday before I die that I can make a run to Havasu and just come see you and your shop.

Merlin that is a nice 46', as usual I have a story, I traded a go-kart engine for mine, 46 Chevy 1/2 ton I was 17 at the time, Other than a switch to 12 volt the truck stayed stock, I hauled fire wood, dirt and every thing else I could get in the bed. I sold it ten years later to help pay for college, I miss that truck.

I’ve always wanted to take either a 2010 f350 four door short bed and put a 5.9 cummins in it, or build a single cab long bed 80’s square body chevy and put a 5.9 cummins in it, I think it would be a cool build, and a great power house, but not to flashy so that the cops don’t bat an eye at you when your running down the highway a little to fast😂

I know what you mean about the heat, I live in NM. We don't get as hot as AZ but still pretty warm. One thing I've found that helps a lot is clear UV blocking window tint on your windows. Since it's clear it can be installed on the windshield, I have it on several of my vehicles and it makes a huge difference. Llumar and 3M make it, I'm sure other companies make it as well.

Wow cool you used to fly a plane? why did you stop flying? We had a 172 Cessna and then we sold out and got a Cessna 210. My husband is a big diesel fan and he also built a custom jeep and gave it a custom paint job that had ghost flames so as you walked around at the ghost flames, change color, we owned a body shop and towing service for quite a few years, and Dupont paint was so impressed with his paint job on that jeep they offered to fly him to the headquarters and teach him more training to do custom paint jobs.
