This year I decorated my XMas tree with a bunch of knitted balls, and it's a fun easy mini project. I use 2.75" balls and there are a few patterns for them in Rav. Takes about 6g and 1.5 hours each. I've been dyeing 20g minis past couple of months, have 2 bags full now for Etsy, but so tempted to keep them and knit all the scrappy projects, lol.

I have a circular sock machine, and end up with lots of leftover bits. I do have a garter stitch shawl in progress like one you showed, but sometimes I just make “frankensocks”. These can be any sock pattern that you just change yarns about every 20 rows or so. I tend to sort my yarn scraps by color families, so the two socks go together, if not actually match. However, many of my friends just make wild combinations and say people love to pick two socks they like and don’t care if they match at all. I once had a woman order 14 pairs of these mismatched socks from me. It certainly put a dent in my leftovers pile!

My kids are all at the age where they are moving to college (16, 18 & 20). I've committed to knitting each of them a sock yarn blanket using scraps from all of my sock projects over many years. SO much sock scraps! Anyhow, I really love Helen Stuart's (Curious Handmade) Habitation Throw. It was designed for minis (I think) but it works great for scraps too. It's got an amazing i-cord border on it that lends weight and a crisp edge to the blanket.

I love new mini skein ideas. Thanks! I just heard about the Number 10 Shawl on the CadyJax podcast. It isn’t designed for mini skeins, but when you see it, you’ll see how they could definitely work. The Hahnel Cowl by Jodi Brown is designed for DK minis and about 70 grams of a main color. The Woolsia Shawl by Ambah O’Brien can be done as a fade using minis. The Southern Charm Cowl by Dianne Brown (Suburban Stitcher) is simple, but would show off an amazing set of minis. The only one I’ve made is Woolsia and I used one color!

I decided to use up all of my leftover sock yarn and make a scarf. The result is four inches wide and nearly seven and a half feet long. It is a tube sixty stitches around and has a sock worked on each end. The best part is that I didn't have to work in all of the ends because they are inside the scarf. (Ravelry ID = Wynjeanne / project = Sock scarf) I wish KZbin would let me attach a photo.
