Need to get yourself a bigger bucket! You'll save so much time. I have an S100 Bobcat that came with a 48" bucket and tried a 72" and never use my 48" anymore.
@SchottServicesАй бұрын
For spreading stone? Can you dig with that bucket and fill it all the way up with stone and dirt?
@berkeyfamily9828Ай бұрын
@@SchottServices If I back the gravel off the pile from on top, then come back in for the scoop, I can get the entire bucket filled. At full bucket, however, my S100 starts tipping. The greater benefit however is smoothing it out after its dumped, with twice the width to cover. Maneuverability is great with a snall machine but with an open parking lot you’d really benefit with the larger bucket.
@SchottServicesАй бұрын
@berkeyfamily9828 ok. If benefit is for spreading I'd suggest using a land leveler/ land plane that I use in almost every video. I can never figure out how guys don't use this attachment. It makes dirt and stone buttery smooth every time! Best and most simple attachment I have in my arsenal. I have a 1 yard mulch bucket that I'll use for moving stone/dirt quicker. But I can't fill that all the way up or machine will tip. Probably 3/4 full. But it's nice for moving across areas where I want to carry more material without it spilling into yard or on driveway. 72" bucket would be to wide for most of the areas I get into but good suggestion! We all have our ways of getting it done!
@berkeyfamily9828Ай бұрын
@@SchottServices Yes I see you using that, and it compels me to look into one. My work with buckets is usually leveling for concrete floors in my pole buildings. The smaller skid steer helps me get around posts on 8' and 10' centers or greater. It was taking me just too long to spread and level with the 48" bucket, however. I put teeth on that bucket and usually only use it when I need to tear into hard grade, or for really tight work. I love the smaller skid steer, but I have my 72" bucket on it almost all the time, because it is much quicker for me.

I used to do it that way but this way seemed much faster. I hauled a fair amount of dirt/sod away but needed it for another job anyhow. If it's clean soil(the sod breaks down into dirt after a year) I typically will save it for other jobs needing dirt! Recycle!

That came out awesome John! Jobs that size are right on the edge for me of renting a full size skid steer.. I did a job a few weeks ago spreading and grading 120 yds of dirt and feel like I prob could have done it in 2 hrs with a full size but took me 7 with the mini.. would have been much faster but the property was large and alot of that dirt had to be moved a bucket at a time. Your job came out spectacular, and im sure you have much more experience bidding these big jobs than i do. Great work!

Great job. The mini stand behind skid steers are great for jobs you have to get off and on a lot but for bigger jobs like this, you didnt have to get on and off, do you think a larger conventional skid with a seat would be better or do you still like the stand behind?

Is there a rule of thumb on how much gravel you will need or how do you factor in or figure out how much gravel you will need for the depth and size of driveway?

Hi, Jon. Hoping to get your feedback on this... I have ran a toro soil cultivator for 3 years now (rented it every few weeks as needed for jobs). It does an excellent job of just burying all the grass and debris so there is not much haul off of material at all... I have never ran a harley rake, but it is my understanding harleys are a more versatile tool than the cultivator for grading, driveway repair, etc... I'm picking up a S925 this week and need to make a decision on whether to get a cultivator or harley rake, as I only have funds for one right now... My question is this... Have you ran a cultivator type attachment that just buries the sod and debris? The cultivator reduces the amount of haul off substantially for a job like this... But maybe not as versatile as the harley? Just hoping to get some feedback on if you prefer the harley for any particular reason? btw, have really enjoyed going through your vids recently... very helpful. I'm gonna send a shoutout your way!
@SchottServices9 ай бұрын
I have never used the Toro cultivator. I believe the power rake will be much more versatile in the long run for your examples given. I do run into the same problem as well where I end up with a lot of debris. I've always wondered if the cultivator would save on amount of debris hauled off. If you can only buy 1 I'd get the power rake if doing more driveway work. The power rake is great in dirt when needing to cut out high spots. Also, the new MTW Power Rake I just purchased can change into a tiller/broom as well. Which is handy!

Looks good only thing I could see to be done differently would be add fabric underneath the stone but all in all solid video and nice work.
@SchottServices9 ай бұрын
Yes. I offer it to every customer but fabric isn't cheap and most customers decline due to additional cost. I think it has it applications but doesn't need to go under all stone/gravel. Thanks for watching!
