Easy to overlook but I think it's worth mentioning for Mini-Z newcomers (like me), but the rims and nuts on the dummy frame that come with Auto Scale Collection models are removed by pulling, not by unscrewing with the wrench. Just watch out to not lose the tiny parts!
@christopherwilliams94184 жыл бұрын
I got an autoscale and I couldn't get the wheels off of the dummy chassis and ended up hacking the plastic wheel nuts apart with a box cutter lol. Scratched up one of my rims pretty bad. ;w; It's rough 'cause I'd really like to re-use the dummy chassis and display box. I kind of wish Kyosho sold empty display boxes and unpopulated dummy chassis because that would make storing and displaying autoscale bodies so much easier. I have 3 bodies but only 1 display box, lol.
@Number-64 жыл бұрын
@@christopherwilliams9418 It took more force than I would've expected, but you're supposed to just pull the wheels right off the dummy. I thought I was going to break something and lose the nuts at first! Definitely hear you about the cases and chassis. Sometimes you can find them on ebay, at least. There's a seller who has MR-03 and AWD cases to sell -- no body shell mounting chassis, though.

Well presented! I have nothing much to add here except for a body that's advertised as "narrow" and has deep offset like Subaru hatchback (the 94mm offset one) you can use wide front chassis with 0mm offset wheels to eliminate scrub radius when turning. You can only do this with narrow body with at least 2.5mm front wheels because wide front is 5mm wider than standard or narrow. So do the math and you get 0mm offset with wide chassis.
@BMR34 жыл бұрын
Thank you Beaver, your always coming through with insightful tips! Apologies but what is scrub radius? This sounds very interesting since I’m planing on building a R8 chassis that has +4.5mm off set in the front so I can use this.
@BeaversHobby4 жыл бұрын
@@BMR3 It's when you turn the wheel with deep offset and the contact point of the tyre is further away from the pivot point. Let's imagine a clock face, the minute hand travels further than the hour hand, right? The same thing happens with different offset too and you can think of it as different length of hands. Handling characteristic changes too but I don't remember which is which. I just remember drifting needs the least scrub radius you can manage.

I think something that maybe be a bit confusing me in the video is that it's my understanding on the MA020 you have to swap the pinion gear whenever you lengthen the chassis. I just got an Initial D readyset kit with the RX7 FC3(?) which is 90mm and wanted to be able to put on the blue suburu Impreza body (not wrc) ASC which is 98mm. Unfortunately the hobby shop I went to was no sufficiently knowledgeable and told me it would fit using the parts included in the readyset kit. As you mentioned 90mm can only be extended to 94mm per the manual but I was recommended a set of extension blocks and a DWS gear as a cheaper solution to get to 98mm compared to buying the whole DWS rear end like you mention. Hoping this works but haven't gotten the parts in yet.
@BMR34 жыл бұрын
Hey PJ, no worries I understand where your coming from & I can help. So the stock ma-020 chassis only has mounting brackets for the 90mm-94mm wheel base, to reach 98mm you will need this extension bracket: rc.kyosho.com/en/mdw205.html This is the cheapest option since you can keep using your current rear end. If you want to upgrade to the DWS, I highly recommend it, but they cost about $70.00 so they aren’t cheep. As far as the spur gear, yes you will need to buy a set separately but luckily they are cheep. Here is a link: www.kenonhobby.com/Kyosho-Mini-Z-AWD-DWS-Spur-Gear-Set-LL_p_44782.html Let me know if you have any further questions, have a happy Hump DAYYYY!

@@BMR3 Thanks for the reply! Sorry I was late night KZbin surfing and decided to comment so probably wasn't very clear. Fortunately these are the parts I had bought but was looking for confirmation from you, since in the video you only indicated the whole rear end needed to be replaced. @BMR34 жыл бұрын
PJ Green lol yeah right after I posted my reply, I realized we were saying the same thing 😂 well I guess that confirms it if nothing else lol The DWS is great, it’s a much smooth transfer of energy through the whole system. @@BMR3 thanks. And just to be clear, each wheelbase also has wide and narrow options?… and to top it off offset for tuning?
@BMR3 Жыл бұрын
@@anotherstar8125 yep, that’s correct. Wheel offset is more to make the body’s look flush with the rims but you have to be careful that you don’t push the wheel offset out too much since the tires can rub on the body/fenders. Also, larger wheel offset = larger scrub radius so that’s why there is a narrow & a wide chassis to help reduce scrub radius on wide body’s. Hope this helps.

I'm sure you're asked this question a lot but I'm looking to get in the mini z the all-wheel drive version. I had a rear wheel drive a couple years back and didn't care for it. Is the 020 the only all wheel drive chassis besides the evo.l version? I can get a decent deal on a brand new all-wheel drive Nissan Cal Sonic version of the 020 is this a good starting point or do I need to go with something else? I will go brushless eventually this chassis except brushless motors?
@BMR33 жыл бұрын
There is a brushed version of the ma-030 AWD as well, you just convert a FWD chassis to AWD by adding a center drive shaft. This is the cheapest way to get a AWD since the FWD chassis is not popular & can be found on sale for around $130ish. Regarding the brushless setups, you can convert a ma-020 to brushless but you have to swap the whole board & it cost around $90 for the board alone. Then you have to buy the brushless motor separate so it gets expensive to convert a 020. But I would say go for that Nissan if it’s a decent deal. The ma-020 is the perfect place to start with this hobby, & you can always convert it to brushless later.

@@BMR3 thank you for answering both my questions. I asked one on another video as well kind of the same question. I can get the zero to zero brand new in the box for 169. So what you're saying is basically by a front wheel drive model and converting over? When i first found out mini-z awd, i really want that Subaru Rally WRC 2008, and because everywhere is out of stock, i ended up buying Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Metallic Blue. However, recently i managed to get brand new the Subaru WRC 2008 autoscale body. It came with the rims (rear wheels are wider than my Mitsubishi Lancer). My question is, if we look at this chart: kyosho.com/mini-z-info/products/auto-scale-collection-for-mini-z-awd/ The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Metallic (MZP439MB) rear wheel offset said R:1 (N) but the Subaru's MZP429WR is R: 0 (W). What is that means? Do i need to buy any new parts for the rear systems? So far i just swap the body (perfectly fit) but not the wheels yet because i haven't bought the drifting tyres to fit the Subaru's rims. I also need your help to buy the correct size for the Subaru tyres. Thank you so much for your help.
@BlueDrift4 жыл бұрын
Heey, You probably don't need to buy any additional parts. the offset is in the wheels it self. it has to do with the distance that the rims sit from the chassis. since all bodies have different dimentions. some wheels sit further from the chassis then others. to make them go flush with the body, but mainly so the wheels don't rub against the body. If you have the rims that come with the body the offset should always be matching. The R stands for rear tire, the F stands for the front tires. the number is the amount of offset the rims have so in this case 1mm for the rear tire off the lancer, and 0mm on the subaru. The N and W stand for narrow(8.5mm) and wide(11mm) tires. if you're buying tires for the new car/rims make sure you get a pair of narrow ones for the front, and wide for the rear. most street bodies use narrow rear tires like the lancer. if you prefer having narrow rims in on the back in the future. then you should look for a narrow rim with 2.5mm offset. to compensate for the width of the rim(8.5mm N tire + 2.5mm ofset in the rim = 11 mm R: 0 W tire/rim) this is the math behind it. but in practice it can still be a bit off sometimes, so don't pin me down on it. If you look for Drifthobby channel, he rencently uploaded a video where he did a S13 body swap. and you can see excactly why you need the correct offset rims. and how it looks and what happends if you don't. I hope this helps out with finding what you need.

What would I need to get to run a s15 body or is there one already sold with the chassis and body
@BMR33 жыл бұрын
I believe the s15 is a 90mm body, so all you will need is the rims & body clip that come with the Autoscale (if you buy it new it comes with everything needed). Just be careful if you buy it used since some parts might not be included.
