Very cool! Could you add an air cushion and a draw plate. It would smooth out those plates nicely. Sounds just like the real thing.

Is there plans for this machine? How does the clutch work? What books did you you use for reference?
@astrialkil11 жыл бұрын
its insane! it has a pin that sticks out of the flywheel and a collar slides to the right (next to the top gear on the right) to engage the pin. that's all , its spring powered return, foot powered engage.

astrialkil hey i was just going through the comments and noticed you mentioned having plans similar to a project just like this. Im currently working on a punch and die project of my own and i was wondering if the plans had anything included about the clutch just like the one in the video here , thanks :D
@astrialkil10 жыл бұрын
Actually , i would like the plans for this machine as it is much better then the very crude clutch in mine. my plans is basically a rod with a pin sticking out and you slide the whole rod to the right to engage the mechanism. If you want the plans they are available from an other guy on eBay, mechanics illustrated (1956 i think) he sells LOTS of plans. i don't remember his store name.

The thing I regret most in life is not listening at school and chasing after a career in engineering. If there's any kids reading this, my advise; Listen,Study and get good grades otherwise you'll regret it.

I work for a manufacturing company, and I am involved with a program to teach students about engineering and manufacturing. Do you have a kit or parts list for this machine? I would love a scale sized presentation
@jackhoff39104 жыл бұрын
This model was built from a (I think) Popular Mechanics magazine or maybe Mechanix Illustrated, which contained to-scale & dimensioned flat patterns and a list of off-the-shelf gear parts needed to make it. I'm not sure what year, but I do know it was published in two different magazine editions during WWII or just before its outbreak in USA. You might be able to find a copy of either edition on ebay if you're patient and set ebay to notify you of new auctions.

I have plans from Mechanics Illustrated 1948 that is very similar. the pedal is on the left and the clutch is also on the left but on the fly wheel shaft not the top gear. it uses a larger motor behind the machine mounted on the wood base. I wondered why they had the 4 gears on the machine as I used a 10 ton punch press and it had no gears, now that I see your running I understand it was to make it slow down. ours would hit almost instantly. Most of the machine is spot on tho. Nice Job! 8)
