Heartbreaking though. My Gabby died on March 12th after 14 years, 4 month. Absolutely healthy most of her life, except the early onset of teeth issues at 5 years old. The last year was riddled with digestive problems, lower spine pain, rear hips and knees arthritis. But all that didn't prepare me for the end. She wasn't going poo nearly enough due to her backside pain for a week or 2, then on late Monday afternoon the 11th it triggered a heart event. ER sent her home with me an absolute shadow of herself. A difference of a few hours and she was a shell. The next morning she sat in her own pee and I took her to my personal vet and that was it. If ever there was a 14 pound dog who was a real man's dog, she was it, my best friend. And I can't get past this. The whole ending haunts me still a month later. I keep reliving her last 18-20 hours and blame myself for everything. I'm 52 and never had to deal with an ending of a pet.

@@AuroraTaylor-ly4pt I'm sorry about your baby. All I can say is eventually we stop crying. The "reliving" the final moments part, that still haunts me after 2 months.

When I read about your mini's "digestive problems," it really hit me. Just a few months ago, my Schnauzer suddenly began turning up his shiny black nose at his usual dry dog food. It was the top brand in the business. After five straight years, he suddenly just refused to eat it. After experimenting with every brand out there, I just gave up and started feeding him expensive canned dog food. But this stuff really isn't that much better, particularly in terms of nutrition, it just has more water in it. That's when I decided to try cooking his meals myself. I started blending brown rice and many different kinds of vegetables, with either burger, chicken, or turkey meat for variety, and he just ate it up!!! I also noticed a tremendous increase in his overall energy level. In fact, I've been spreading the gospel of home cooking to nearly everyone in my building, and those who have tried it never went back to buying store bought food. Just check out the many YT channels on the subject, and never use onions, garlic, or any seasonings when you cook for your dog, it's bad for them. I make enough to last me several weeks, placing some in the fridge, then freezing the rest for later use. Good luck everyone.

The only "negative" thing about miniature Schnauzers is when they past away... The pain and emptiness they leave inside us, are sometimes unbearable. :(

We love our Ella. Also Molly. Ella is a beautiful grey Schnauzer. Molly is part Schnauzer, tan and black. They love our family, love to play, some training. Both rescue animals. We love them very much.

I love all schnauzers but I had 2 giants and loved them so much!!

I have had Miniature schnauzers .They are loyal and loveable but they can be a little stubborn give them time and be patient with them. They love their play time and they love chilling out with their peeps. my grooming tip is you want to get them use to touch so rub their ears their toes and around their mouth .A gentle message can feel really good .As with any dog breed you need to watch little ones around them closely as little children don't know their own strength and can pull on little ears and tails a little too hard .It is also important to watch what they eat. Make sure that anyone who helps take care of your dog is on the same page with you .

We bought a mini puppy schnauer. We r enjoying him but his puppy biting is really hard. We will get through this phase soon I hope. Love your videos.

I bought a mini schnauzer too and he’s currently 5 months old. I too went through the puppy biting phase, and it hurts! But I’ve noticed that he has definitely calmed down and doesn’t bite as much anymore. Good luck with your pup!

Puppy biting is normal for the first 3 months of life, as this is when they are teething. It can be painful just like when you see babies teething,it is the same.

There’s no cons it’s just responsibility they seem fairly easy to care for

I'd just add that they are the Fun Poiice of most dog parks. If there is anything untoward (in their opinion) going on withinn their known dog group - or there is some new dog causing trouble -, they will put a stop to it, ask for names and addresses and generally ensure that matters are sorted! On their being ratters... my (late) schnauzer once mistook a group of wallabies for rabbits, I assume. Raced off in their direction, barking fiercely. When he got close, I'm not sure who was more surprised - Max, who suddenly realised these were NOT rabbits, or the wallabies, who realised at the same time that this was NOT a threat! A brief counter-chase ensued. Much hilarity.

I have owned three Miniature Schnauzers and I can't think of a single "Con" about owning one, only perhaps of their known proclivity to bark. That said, NONE of my Schnauzers have ever been "barky," and I attribute that to SIMPLE TRAINING. Even the most "talkative" dogs can be taught that unnecessary barking is not desirable, in fact, that ANY unwanted behavior is strictly a "no-no," and whenever I see a dog with lots of problems, I always blame the owner, never the dog. That said, my current baby absolutely DOES NOT BARK, and it is because when I was researching the best breeders in my area I actually found one who told me that she specifically breeds her Schnauzers not to be big barkers, simply by pairing dogs that tended to be less noisy. In short, I found the perfect dog. P.S. I like the typical "Schnauzer Cut," but nowadays going to a professional groomer can be extremely expensive, especially when you're living on a pension like me. So I just went on YT to find videos on "How to Trim a Miniature Schnauzer," and even after the first try, it was surprisingly easy. Now, I save 100s of dollars in grooming fees, and everyone always compliments me on "how handsome he looks." I purchased the only cordless trimmer on the market (a big help), and here's the Big Secret... when you first go to trim a young dog, just place the trimmer in his bed until he gets used to the look and sound of it, which is their single biggest fear, then just give him lots of love and treats while working on him. Soon, he'll begin to actually look forward to the entire experience.

My only negative is that at 3 yrs. of age, my mini Schnauzer will still pee in the house - on plastic or a pee pad even tho’ I invested in a pet storm door which she can use as needed. I don’t know what to do to correct this behavior. HELP!

Poodles are smarter & my Schnauzer won't house break. She's also vicious at times & bites me when she doesn't want me to leave. Worse dog I've ever had.
