The traditional Japanese katana forging process takes years to master, but we decided to take on the challenge in a completely unconventional way. Our custom katana build started with a pile of paperclips, which we melted, shaped, and hammered into a samurai sword form.
If you've ever been fascinated by how Katanas are made, this video takes you behind the scenes into a world of blacksmithing a katana with a twist. Instead of forging metal in the usual way, we had to get creative to make a strong and sharp katana that actually works.
The Katana Forging Process
Unlike traditional Japanese sword forging, where expert swordsmiths fold and temper Tamahagane steel, we had to melt down hundreds of paperclips to craft this masterpiece. The forging weapons process required high heat, precise hammering, and expert shaping to create a blade that could hold an edge.

Most people think that forging a sword requires expensive materials and specialized tools, but with enough patience, skill, and creativity, even something as simple as paperclips can be turned into a deadly-looking Japanese katana.

i was wondering they could have used the hydrolic press to press the paper clips and the steel powder compactly and then keep layering up by pressing it and then put it inside the forge, that would have saved them from lots of troubles

The propane tanks freezing is actually insanely dangerous, you should be careful around them. We had a lot of accidents where people would let them freeze, the gas expanded so much, that they did straight up exploded, and it took out couple apartments at time, sometime leaving a straight through hole in the building. Some cases were so bad they had to demolish the whole building because its entire construction received irreparable damage.

If you wanted to make a 100% paper clip katana, you should have asked the producer of the steel powder if he can make powder from the paper clips; maybe he would have sponsored you or something for the project; and then you combine it with regular paper clips and forge that stuff into a katana.

You guys might want to do a little research on forging. Fabric that melts (especially glove) isn’t good for skin, hydraulic presses for forging need to be really fast for forge welds. This project is a great concept and it’s a really ambitious type of Damascus to make. I hope you stay safe and strike well.

That's pretty good considering how janky your workshop is. Although, you should be aware that those rubber bands will dry out and it'll be seriously nasty. Might be a good idea to replace them with something else. I'd suggest paracord.

Please start using leather gloves plastic ones will melt onto your skin. Also please get tongs. A hydronic press is good but hand forging with a proper hammer is a lot more efficient it moves material a lot faster. Also another tip using stainless steel foil or white out or even white paint around your container will help it come off without grinding it off.

Day 91 of asking Mini Katana to design and create a full-tang and dull sword inspired by Hidan's triple-bladed scythe from _Naruto._ Some ways you could accomplish this are colouration, a cord at the end and smaller blades splitting off from the blade, or putting the symbol of Lord Jashin on it. Incorporating all three ideas would be ideal and make an awesome sword. All days are measured consecutively. Video 261. Video 108 of heh. Paperclips would be stronger as damascus than straight paperclips. (Get it?)

quick tip i learnt from a friend: sprinkle baby powder on the steel after forging to lessen the iron oxidising. it is actually so impressive, sword forging is a crazy skill and so is splitting a tatami mat cleanly, and the just breeze past it like nothin..
