good job on Korg for this one, looks very well done! super classy

My first synth was a korg 770. Everything about this is very similar, but what makes it really appealing is the midi input and arp which my old synth does not have. The best it could do was assign LFO to note trigger, but that could not sync to anything else. I have a 90 minute cassette somewhere of my old drones I made using the effect. I have zero need for more synths, but it holds a lot of sentimental value as a classic design I am very familiar with. This newer one seems to have a sharper attack that is found in newer analogs. The old 770 is slightly mushy on the attack. The poly800 is similar. The huge selling point for the 770 was its manual which provided an easy overview on what waves are found in what sounds and how to use the various sections in the synth. I think it may even have had some sample patch settings for common instrument types. If this one has a similar manual it seems like a great starter synth due to the simplicity of its architecture. The price on this is what will make it or break it.

Gotta hand it to Korg, they led the analog charge with the minilogue and led the vintage reissue charge with the ms20 mini. This is even better. Yamaha and Roland should definitely take notes. They probably don't have anyone on payroll right now that can design/build analog circuits, but they can always hire and I'm sure they keep good documentation of the old hardware.

To be fair they started the analog reawakening with the Monotribe, and then the Volcas.

Cool little box! The mini korg suits well to let this attenuator shine - set the basic tone and make it always sound better by pushing it over the edge.. thanks!

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. A shift to Korg of old and away from their recent VST with button iterations.

I think the reverb on the smaller one sounds better. Sounds less springy than the big one. In a good way

Does a remake of an old synth prohibit making some alterations? Like adding velocity, other controls?

Initially when Korg released the 700FS, the first few production/demo units had the triangle wave wrong and didn’t sound like the original 700S. Glad that when I received my unit, it sounded to like the original 700S

Over 1K and... mini keys with no velocity sensitivity? Um.. No thanks. It seems like much of this sale is about the looks. Will probably satisfy some rich guy's GAS fine. Now, if they made it say 2 octaves but full size keys + velocity sensitivity + Kaoss Pad (or additional spring-less joystick), - that would open up an additional market niche for sure. Portability with next to zero expressiveness (and lack of MIDI OUT to add insult to injury) is a tough sell especially for that price.
@seantobin811140 минут бұрын
Maybe try one, the sound on the 700fs is one of the most organic sounds from a synth I’ve heard in years! The reissue is a ball tearer, nothing to do with looks if your chasing a vibey, alive sounding synth

i understand that before there were no saving presets on previous versions, but idea to give only 14 slots is really strange nowadays. but maybe i dont understand technical magic beside changing presets which limits it, but if it controlled by computer changing presets why they wouldnt let have some bigger number of them?

no velocity, bye bye
@inthefadeСағат бұрын
I love playing piano because I can express myself with how hard I hit the keys, but then I love synthesizers that have no velocity... Each has their place. Before the invention of the piano-foete instruments with keys didn't have velocity and a lot of great classical music was made with them. Harpsichord is the obvious example. It is just a matter of taste and what you want to do with a particular composition.
@juicythedj75029 минут бұрын
Lol, stick to piano's then 😀

@@inthefade yes but as long as technology exists (and is not pre 80s period) then why not to have it, its an parameter that can help the sound expression without using other hand

It was designed about half a century ago. Quite literally looks nothing like a synth "designed by AI". Also AI designs are stolen directly from things humans have made. Everything AI makes was original something made by people
