Years ago I had so many holiday decorations that I would have a panic attack when taking them out for the season. It was overwhelming,so I decided to keep only a few of the ones that actually made me happy and gave away the rest. I asked my children if they wanted anything special and my son took a few things that meant something special to him. Believe me, it was life changing and now when I do decorate for the holidays… it is so much easier and I enjoy the way everything looks… also having way to many clothes can add to my anxiety 😬 so I sent them off to the thrift store. Over 50!!!!!! Bins later today I feel much happier now 😊 I still struggle to keep on track with my spending habits but I’m always on the lookout for clutter that can creep in. ❤ Tomorrow is Laundry room! Right across is Pantry, small. So doing both. In pantry is lightbulbs, cleaning supplies, etc. No room for can goods, so moving it to long table with labeled containers on it. Declutterring as I move things! ❤❤

Write down your favorite things. 🤯 When it comes down to it, the only thing I would truly be very upset about losing are a pair of diamond stud earrings my father gave me when I turned 21. This really puts things into perspective.

♥Very insightful! Along the same lines as stuff you're continually moving around, there were certain items that I would only see when I was doing a round of decluttering and just keep putting back, like my childhood Easter basket. When I really thought about it, this was a cheaply mass-produced item, I don't decorate for Easter, and I have all the memories whether it's sitting in my home or not, so now it's not.

@@minimalease I just want to tell you that the next point about listing what you truly love has been on my mind ever since watching this video. There are obviously a lot of things that I need and use but the only items I have that are of great quality and I love are my couch and loveseat. Everything else is pretty old and I wouldn't be devastated to lose in a house fire or some natural disaster. I know your intention was to make us realize how much more we could declutter but it was still an interesting thought experiment for me.

❤ We have bought our first house. We've been in Christian Camping (where the housing is usually provided, at least in the states) for most of our marriage of 32 years. We started down the minimalist road about 10 years ago, when we lived in Michigan. When we moved back to Australia 7 years ago with nine suitcases, I was so grateful to have decluttered soooo much already. With our latest move just a few kilometres away, we are slowing moving our things over from the unit to our new-to-us house. We consider each item - some are given to the thrift store right away, some may be given in the future when we get a replacement, and some are definite keepers. It's so much easier to move when we've spent years decluttering. Even though we are pretty minimalist with our things, it's fascinating to see what we still are able to let go of. You mentioned about having favourite things - I have one beautiful brass candle stick (which, when I'm on Pinterest around Christmas time, I have to remind myself that I don't need more than one 😂). Anyhow, our daughter gave us a bee's wax tapered candle as a house warming gift - something I've mentioned to her that I would love to switch over to eventually. But somehow, my brain is struggling with throwing away the barely used paraffin wax candle. Silly me! By writing this here, I think it will help me get over the "wasted candle" 😂 and enjoy the healthier and beautiful bee's wax one 😊 I just love listening to your videos. They are always such an inspiration and encouragement to keep on evaluating and re-evaluating the objects and inventory that I have in my home. Thank you, Becky for your wonderful and wise videos.

What are you thoughts about scrapbooks. After the big phase of scrapbooking I realized I had 30 books. Luckily I have 2 adult daughters. Do you scrapbook

So i have a few picture books that my mother in law made for me and my husband online from big trips we took. I do like to have them but I only have them for the really big moments in our lives (Europe trip, our wedding, ect.) For me its a lot better then having just a big box of pictures because it puts context to the picture. I don't think I would keep any that you never find yourself looking at. Try to take digital pictures of the few special pictures and let the books go especially if you daughters don't want them ❤️❤️Let me know what you end up wanting to do with them! Good Luck friend!
