I just wanted to say that you've quickly become one of my favorite youtubers, Madeleine! I love how honest you are with yourself and how real you are with your viewers. You never portray yourself to be anything that you're not and you have such a great sense of self. I love that you always ask yourself questions and are constantly contemplating how to cultivate your life into something that brings you value and something that you find rewarding. Its amazing to see someone in this day in age being true to themselves and asking the bigger questions in life. Keep shining your beautiful light upon the youtube community!

I recently let go of my year 12 (final year of high school in Australia) school jersey. It was a tradition for classmates to sign each others' jerseys on graduation day. I took some really good, high-quality photos of it which I figure I can always look at when feeling nostalgic. In fact, I use the photo method for all sentimental items I wish to declutter ❤️

If anything, that's the one thing you should keep for posterity. There's nothing wrong with keeping 1 item like that if it's only good memories, you don't have to wear it and if you have kids you can show them a piece of your past

I used to have shirts that I didn't like to wear but liked the print or that had sentimental value. I turned them into pillows: cutting off the ends, filling with foam and sewing It again!

I don't have good space to store the maybe items, so I do the hangar trick. All my hangars are backwards, at the end of the month anything not worn and hung back up correctly goes to another closet. At the end of another month, whatever remains in the back-up closet goes to donation. :)

Things i need to declutter most are tshirts. But not because i don’t like them. Its because they either have holes in them or,the armpits get stained - both from wearing them so much! I feel like i need to replace tshirts often. But thats fine, they are relatively cheap and i wear a tshirt pretty much every single day.

For the t-shirts, why not make grocery/product bags or a blanket or even pillows out of them? That is what I did with all my oversize basketball shirts that I only wear when I go the gym or to bed

I think when de-cluttering you should remember perspective. If you have 100 t-shirts and get rid of 10 that's 10%, but if you have 5 t-shirts and get rid of just one that' 20% of your total t-shirts. I'm really interested in the bleaching. I have a black dress with a white collar but it has faded even after the first wash. I would love to keep it for years but not sure how long it will last.

this whole 90/90 rule does absolutely NOT work for me. If it's midwinter, then of course I haven't worn my shorts for the last 90 days and it's very likely, that I won't be wearing them the next 90 ones. But I will still need them, when summer rolls around...

Another great video, I love these organisational videos.. I recently had a sort out of some clothes and I made a pile with some of my faded clothes and off white/undesirable colours pieces.. I bought some Dylon clothes dye in Smoke Grey and whacked everything in my machine and was delighted with the new colour and how it has transformed the clothes which I am now wearing.. It was so exciting seeing the results.. There were a couple of pieces that didn't work out right so I decided to toss them in the bin.. 😀xxx

I literally have probably twice as many clothes as I need but I cannot get rid of them because I can’t wear all my clothes to school and work. So I need extra. It really sinks because I want to get rid of so much because I don’t want it but it’s the only things that are dress code friendly.
@sonyaheinrich

Same with me. I have a couple sets of uniforms for my part time job that I hate and would love to get rid of, I have a bunch of business casual clothes for my full time office job, which I like but I don’t want to wear just out and about with friends or for lounging/errands, so I have more clothes for those activities 😰 not to mention work out clothes! It’s madness! I could get rid of so much if I were able to have a career that let me work from home.

I ever got use to the idea of capsule wardrobing. My social and work life were not so fashionable. However, switching around winter and summer clothes is one of the best ideas ever. I only started doing it at the start of the year. For the colder days during summer (here in Australia), I keep my denim jacket, cardigan and a lightweight jumper 😁

Decluttering coats are hard when living in the UK, because a few of them are for 'summer' and most of them are for autumn/winter. Most of my coats and hoodies, I've had for quite a few years... one of them since sixth form. :'D (it has a hood... and it's still too pretty!) I always find books and clothes the hardest to declutter! Though I did recently bought some discounted seasalt clothes, and I really love the prints. I can see myself loving them for a long while... only now, I need to declutter clothes soon. Something that has helped me so far is that if I buy a new thing (whether it's clothes or books), I need to get rid of one or two things to make space for the new things.

I love your videos so much, Maddy! Your declutter videos inspired me to declutter myself a year ago. (It popped up on youtube, and it was my first contact with minimalism in a much needed period of my life :) ) And it is true, you feel instantly lighter (and for me, I have more energy) after getting rid of the things you don't need / don't want anymore. Also, you should try the marikondo folding for your socks too! It looks like it doesn't do a lot, but it makes all the difference. :) Like your poor socks are literaly resting after a long day of work (Marie Kondo's thoughts, not mine :D ) I started the whole thing last year with my underwear drawer, and it has been neat and tidy ever since. :)

I'm having the same problem with t-shirts, I like the events and organizations and things they remind me of and I like to display my affiliation with those things, but I've started to hate the look of the neckline of standard crew t-shirts on myself, and they aren't appropriate for my workplace anyway. I've cut a few into workout shirts so I can still own and enjoy them, and I'm considering doing that with a bunch of the rest. My only worry is that I might start to feel differently and all my t-shirts will have been chopped up, but I also feel like I shouldn't wait for my style to /maybe/ change one day. I don't like the look of t-shirts now, so I should turn them into something I'll actually get use out of.

This is kind of hard for me because I am a musician, a vocalist. And we're expected to have an endless array of audition skirts, audition dresses, recital gowns, casual concert blacks, formal concert blacks, heels for every occasion, infinite pantyhose, makeup out the ass, etc. I have it down to one recital gown, two audition outfits, and two sets of concert black. But it's hard because these are especially bulky items that do take up a lot of space. It's not the most conventional lifestyle lol
