Excellent kit brother! My only suggestion, (coming from an ED Nurse, former Paramedic and USAF Flight Medic), is to add a small boo boo kit at the very minimal! No big trauma or FAK to keep weight down, etc. Also, i would carry an ACE elastic bandage somewhere on my body for sprains and strains as those are very common injuries in the field and much easier to care for with an ACE wrap. ACE wraps are also multi functional! Also, I teach the Hug-a-Tree-and-Survive survival course for children and the children are taught a survival whistle is essential to attract SAR personnel for rescue. As Part of the course, the children are issued a quality whistle, usually a FOX or UK ACME with a breakaway lanyard. No weight or room issues for the kit as the whistle is worn around the neck. I would definitely include a whistle in the future! Well, thanks for dealing with my long comment! Really awesome video and presentation sir. Well done! I subbed and look forward to future videos! Thanks!

Just a suggestion to add to an otherwise Awesome small kit, a very small sharpener for edge touch ups and it can double to throw sparks off a carbon steel blade. Thank you for sharing. I’m 67 now and I really appreciate the thought that goes into decreasing size and weight. So thanks again.

Great kit. I have that Ranger Grip SAK and I added an emergency fire kit from Tortoise Gear to the corkscrew. They are not a gimmick. They actually work really well in a pinch. Just as a backup suggestion. 😊

Awesome little kit! I would add a mylar space blanket that you can make a lean-to shelter out of that will reflect fire heat onto you. I think I'm going to make up one of these as I already own everything listed, but I am going to weave some paracord into the molle webbing to hold a USGI Industries poncho bag that will have a poncho with stake-out loops attached and 4 aluminum triangular tent stakes. I think that would round this off to a perfect survival kit. Thanks for the idea!

Amazed at what you managed to get into that small bottle bag. One suggestion to make, add a good quality survival whistle to that kit. I'd say in the USA the aircrew survival whistle from ACR or in the UK any whistle from ACME (J Hudson). A couple of band aids would be a slight improvement too.I'm sure if you shop around the $ stores you will be able to source a heavier,better quality, small poncho. Thanks for taking the time to show your kit set-up to us.

Me personally, I would rather use some of my duct tape for a bandaid. It seems to stay on better. As for a poncho, I have a better one, that is compact, but I couldn’t get it to fit into this particular bag. I could carry it in a cargo pocket on my pants, but I was trying to put together a very minimalist bag, lightweight, and self contained, that I could grab and go. Whistles are good, but some could get mistaken for a bird chirping. I will show a noise maker in my next video, that I have in this small kit, that will never be mistaken as a natural sound in the woods. Thanks for your feedback! Thanks for watching!

great kit. just found your channel. I like making minimal kits too. i do have a suggestion. i have the new SRO water bag that can hold a 64 oz. bottle. . i have everything you've mentioned in it. but i also have a military style poncho inside the bag and a stainless steel cup and 32 oz. bottle. i folded the poncho so it would line the inside of the bag. . then i slid the cup and the water bottle into the bag, with the poncho wrapped around it, about 3/4 around the bottle. that gives you a little room for the cup and bottle and enough room to slide a mora with a sail needle taped to the sheath in there too. on top of the water bottle, i have a bandana, compass and a small roll of bankline and the lid for the cup. in the other pocket, i have a 1/2 x 6 inch ferro rod, bic lighter wrapped with gorilla tape, mini infernos, a stick of fatwood, and a sawyer mini water filter with a small water bag, and a streamlight protac 1AAA flashlight with extra batteries, and 4 abs tent stakes in the molle webbing. the poncho is my main shelter, better than the emergency ponchos. just thought i'd tell you how i made my kit. keep on truckin!!

Great set up! I would change a few things. I teach survival so please bear with me. First the grayl. I'd ditch that in favor of a real water bottle. Grayl 20 ounces vs 32 or larger. I'd add a frontier filter and some water purification tablets with a coffee filter. I'd move the mora outside and lash some cordage and glow sticks outside. Some food bars and survival tabs would go inside. Snare wire, fishing kit, signal mirror, whistle. Better flashlight and a mylar blanket for overhead shelter. Maybe heat packs and improved first aid. Thumbs up for your compass choice. A signal flare is good to have if severely injured. I'll add your video to the list I suggest for my students. Liked and subbed

This Grayl is 24 ounces. I chose it so I can drink water quickly, while on the move. I can fill it up at most any stream, pond, ect… , press it, and it’s ready to go, and not have to take the time to boil it before drinking. I can drink a bottle at the stream, fill it up again to carry with me. If I had a bottle, I would have to boil water, cool it down, then drink, so I feel the Grayl is a huge time saver. Also with purification tabs, there is a wait time for them to work, before you can drink the water. Thanks for your comment, like, and sub.

thats a fabulous kit Bart! just a small question, why do you carry the magnifying lens if you have your reading glasses with you all the time? I mean, you can theoretically use the glasses as a magnifying glass for fire starting. but overall a really small, lightweight kit. I like it :)

Whistles are good, however, the sound some whistles make, might be mistaken for a bird chirping. I can take my stainless steel cup, and use it for a sound chamber, by hitting the bottom of it with a stick. Nothing in the woods sounds like that, and it is surprisingly loud. Thanks for commenting, and thanks for watching!

@Bart.Caudill.Outdoors

It does. I was just trying to keep this kit small and lightweight. My regular poncho wouldn’t fit, so I used one that would. This is just a “what if” bag, for a short “day bag” if you will, if something unexpected happened. If I thought rain was coming, I would definitely take my good poncho, even if I had to put it in my cargo pocket on my pants. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!
