Minimalist Achievement is Pain

Spent about 4 hours trying to get the correct rng for this challenge, heres the run where i finally got it right lmao
Also for those who do not know, minimalist is beating the game with a deck of 5 cards or less, and your starting deck is 10 (12 if you play silent), so basically for this to work I had to save all money for card removals in shops, get lucky with card removal events, get the empty cage as a boss relic (+2 card removals) at the same time as i get the right cards for it. basically a lottery lmao

For this video we went with a longer format, almost no cuts, I feel like it's more approperiate for a game like slay the spire, where context matters a lot. The edits are still there but we left in a lot more content than usual so they are just further apart. Example I beat the game in 18:40ish with the defect and got the 20:00 achievement, and had all the keys so went on to fight the heart and got the achievement for beating the heart with the defect in the same run.

The most dangerous question mark events for this kinda run in the third act are actually more likely at the end too, not because it adds cards (only the "getting lost" event can add cards, but you can just lose max HP), but because it would have forced him to remove a card and fuck up his deck (the spirit fire and "break your fall" event are very likely to appear at the end of act 3) so who ever suggested that had done the right thing while still being wrong; tldr Typical Chat Be Like

I just completed this run myself, but since I got Toke I was able to get a little more creative with it. I replaced Zap with another Claw + and that seemed to work a lot better for me. Also a shop in the second act just gave me the cards I needed to complete it at the same time which was kinda wild. Not to mention singing bowl, which helped out a lot with making up for not picking up other cards. I even got Orrery in the shop which gave me 10 max HP by itself

I managed to beat it with 4 store card removals, 2 card removal events, a transform turning finesse (card in the wall) into flash of steel, and then buying another flash of steel. I, also, got "Defeat a boss on turn 1", and "Defeat the transient before it fades away" on that run. Could theoretically be done on the silent if you got the empty cage, but you don't need RNG that crazy to get it on the other characters.

I completed this achievement a few weeks ago with watcher, my deck was eruption, vigilance, wallop, blasphemy and ritual dagger, also i got smiling mask, empty cage and peace pipe to remove cards from my deck, everything was so perfect about this run and i wasnt even trying to get minimalist

back when i first saw this it motivated me to try it on my own. It was an ironclad block build that used none of the starting cards, meaning i had to get lucky with the cards, relics, and events/shops to remove the cards. i forgot what exactly the build was, but it was horrible for the challenge and i lost like 2 good attempts to bad rng, the first to a curse from the gremlin wheel of fortune, and the second to a darkling softlock. painful to execute but it was a really fun challenge to brainstorm a solution to. i think it was like: Barricade, Entrench, Body Slam, Second Wind, Power Through.

Heart Fight from getting all 3 Keys is a really hard fight, and for achievements that require a win, if you go to the Heart Fight, you have to beat the Heart or else your win doesn't count for the achievement.

@@BaronSterling He picked up green key as a backup plan. The achievement requires a deck with 5 or less cards and act 4 always has a shop so in the event he beats act 3 boss and has 6 cards then he can still go to act 4 for one last chance at the achievement.

I've got it as Silent, it's much simpler because Silent already enjoys small decks, but more random because more starting cards sad. I've had 2 0 cost hits, acrobatic, reflexes, neutralize, and a relic that gets me 6 block whenever I shuffle. I use 0-costs, acrobatic gets all 0-costs back, and then I discard reflexes which draws both acro and refl back into my hand. As a result, for 1 energy I get to use 3 free damage cards with weaken, and get 18 block (don't ask how it's 18 and not 12, I dunno lul). If I'd had a relic that gets you 2 energy every 3 shuffles, I would've got infinite.

He might have needed to do heart for 1 more shop to remove a card. Smooth stone gives 1 dex, which is basically useless for Defect because most his block comes from orbs which aren't affected by dex. Silent would do the same for strength if most the damage is coming from poison, since strength wouldn't really matter.

there's a bunch of ways to do it in a discard deck. there's also the drop kick loop (that might be the name of the ironclad card but silent has one that has the same function) and of course unceasing top zero costs

Like the other guy said the most common ways are using dropkick (heel hook is the Silent's version) or just 0 cost top decks. There's a lot of infinites you can make with Madness too.

I am late but there are some ways of doing infinites/5 card deck without zero cost or unceasing top Ironclad - semi infinite bloodeletting, pommel strike, shrug it off in a small deck or one wgere cards exhaust so they can redraw themselves limited by your life Ironclad - this one unconmon relic that gives you 2 energy for 2 reshuffles with pommel strike, shrug it off Silent - a good discard deg with tactician/concentrate, reflex, sneaky strike, eviscerate Silent - again a discard deck but with 5 cards grand finale and something like acrobatics this is the best possible attack Defect - plasma from a boss relic/one cost card/chaos and recursion with something like skim or any other draw card Defect - 5 card deck with one cost uncommon dark card that evoke a dark with recursion Watcher - mantra deck with inner peace and prostates or pray Watcher - fear no evil, rushdown, tantrum with a small deck Watcher - relic that gives you 3 energy for exiting calm and then a simple rushdown with base calm and base wrath card is enough

Those are the beta art, you unlock them after beating the corrupt heart with the character the cards belong to. After beating the heart with every character you unlock beta art for colorless cards as well

It's not busted but it's just really good and consistent. To me it's nice to have block cards that do more than just block for the current turn, and after the first cast glacier gives a lot of block plus keeps frost for the future.
