I LOVE the light beige theme. I'm always wearing black/navy because it's easy (to find or to wear), but it doesn't do me any favors. How do you deal with people around you tho? I’m trying to be a minimalist, but my (read my husbands) family is ABSOLUTELY not a minimalists, and are all about keeping everything. Now I don’t really care how they live, but they seem to care about what lifestyle I’m living. So I’m usually buying stuff in neutrals both for me and my kids (especially for kids, since we want more, and I want clothes to be as gender neutral as possible), and I also like to have like a week worth of closing for me and kids. But then the family comes and give/buy stuff that are completely opposite of what I use, and so I pretty much never use it, so then I have to recycle it in some way. And that’s where the problem starts, the only way I can get rid of stuff without being judged is to throw it away and don’t tell anyone, cause once I try to sell something on markeplave they always start asking questions, and also telling me that with a house as big as mine I could just keep all that stuff stored somewhere (I don’t see the point in that). That annoys me so much, so I end up not saying anything just to don’t say something in a wrong way. 😭

Thank you for watching and for the kind words! IN regards to donating to a women's shelter, I want to do this ALL THE TIME but I can never find one that is accepting donations (especially right now). Do you have any resources for this? Or do you just call local shelters?
@LivingWellMedia3 жыл бұрын
@@aliviafields Ahhh yes I was speaking about the before times.😭 This is incredibly frustrating but understandable with the pandemic. I would suggest we each reach out to the local shelters in our areas this way the love is being spread in each of our communities and not going to bigger ones that likely already have enough resources. The last time I called they were only accepting masks and sanitary products. BUT they said to check back soon. As more and more people become vaccinated the shelters will be accepting donations soon. So if anyone is okay with keeping a box in their car and waiting just a little longer... :D

I don’t mean this in a bad way and with no judgement! It’s just a thought that keeps popping up for me. It can also be that it’s just a misunderstanding of languages because my native language isn’t English. So I just thought, let’s ask. I hear a lot of people say when they do closed clean outs that they check there clothes and if an item is not nice enough any more, or at his end, or very worn they can be donated. And if clothes are still in good condition they sell. Of course selling is a really good way of letting items you don’t want any more go! Especially because if someone is paying for an item they probably are going to wear that item. But when it comes to donating ( in the Netherlands that means that those items are for people who can’t afford clothes themselves and are relying on items they get from donated items) shouldn’t those items also still be nice and in still a good condition? Or has donating in the USA different meaning? If an item is just not good enough to wear anymore, than indeed bring them to a good place where they recycle. And before bringing that item to that recycle place, just see if there are a few more wears to get out of it. Maybe it’s also about the question what is an item that is on his last legs or in a bad condition? That already is probably different for different persons depending on what you’re used to,🤔🧐. Again, just a question that kept popping up in my mind watching closed clean outs. Thanks. Kind regards.
@LivingWellMedia3 жыл бұрын
I believe we should only be donating items that are in good condition. No one prefers clothing with stains and holes. Most thrift stores (especially US based company Goodwill) end up contributing most items to landfill. Its better to give to womens shelter directly items in good condition and items in poorer condition need to be recycled (in my humble opinion).
@dutches83843 жыл бұрын
@@LivingWellMedia hi, thanks. I feel the same! I think it’s better to be honest about an item and the condition it’s in. If it’s still in good condition find a person or place to donate it to so you can make a person truly happy with it! But also in the Netherlands so much is being donate to charity shops that indeed a part goes to landfill ( lucky most charity shop bring them to a recycle center themselves but not all 😢) or I even hear stories about clothing being shipped to Africa etc. I mean, 😔. And if an items really is at his end than I don’t think anyone will pick it up so than it might be better to recycle it yourself so you now for sure it’s not ending up in landfill. After seeing so much closet declutters and hearing that same line over and over I was wondering, what does it mean if someone says that? It probably means something different for a lot of people, but just in general. Again thanks for responding. Kind regards.
@aliviafields3 жыл бұрын
Hey! This is a great question, thanks for asking! Happy to answer, from my own perspective of course! I'd say the list goes like this, for me. 1. If I paid for an item and it is in great condition, and still has life and value in it, I'll sell it, so I don't feel like it was a total waste of money, especially if it was an impulse purchase, or something I just didn't end up getting a ton of use out of. 2. If I know an item is still in good condition, but it's not the right season to sell it, or I know it just doesn't hold a lot of monetary value, but is still totally wearable, I will donate it! (some consignment shops will donate on your behalf what they cannot buy from you, which is an awesome way to say "hey I tried to get a few dollars from the item, but if not, it's still going somewhere useful". 3. If something is stained, has tons of holes in it, and overall holds very little value, I'll use a service like Knickey or ForDays that will recycle it! 4. If I don't feel like doing that extra step, I'll just cut up the fabric and use it as a cleaning cloth scrap! I hope that helps to understand a bit! I would hope that most people wouldn't donate something that is just outright at the end of life, because you're totally right, most donation sites would likely send those to a landfill if they hold no monetary value! Thanks again for asking. :)
@dutches83843 жыл бұрын
@@aliviafields thanks so much for you’re answer and clearing that up! I think for the biggest part people and KZbin’s that are already thinking about the environment will probably use the same steps like you and I do. So when a person says “an item that at his end I’ll donate “ doesn’t mean donate to a charity etc, but it is more like a general saying and means some items will be donated and some will be recycled ( you already mentioned that in you’re video so 🙏🏻) . Happy to now that! Really helps how I will hear that sentence next time! thanks for answering and doing good for the environment! Kind regards esmeralda
