We take the Minimotors Dualtron X out on a group ride in San Francisco with Baesk8. The Bay Area Electric Skate group is an inclusive group of electric vehicle riders. We ride everything from OneWheels to E-Bikes to Skateboards and more. This electric scooter is one of the fastest e-scooters on the market for purchase, and I love it. Not everything goes to plan during the ride though, and we have a minor #crash when I decide to run over a Skateboarder, very sorry man! Luckily everyone walked away from this one, but lessons were learned.

The DTX brakes are woefully inadequate. With so much weight and puny 2-piston MTB brakes, it's not going to stop as fast as one wants. I set ebrakes to 4 but even with it higher than normal I have to maintain a 2 car distance between anything ahead of me. Great video!
@AlienRides
@AlienRides 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's a good point, thanks for the comment. In this video you can hear the rear brakes locking up and sliding out a bit. The ebrakes were only set to 1, since that's what I got the scooter at and as a result I think 4 is definitely necessary. It would help leverage both motors a bit more for braking I think. I think that if I had ebrakes to 4 this incident wouldn't have happened.
@twistedjiji
@twistedjiji 5 жыл бұрын
Hope you guys are ok and no one was seriously hurt. I also picked up the X and for my riding (so far), I've not had to set it too high for the e-brakes. Is it possible to swap the factory brakes/discs for something more effective down the line?

@@darrellwesh7352 interesting point, from what I gather ABS allows you to keep more control while braking, but does not reduce braking distance? Glad everyone is okay. It wasn't your fault as any pack riding is not going to allow for great braking distance. That speed wobble the e-boarder experienced is one of the main reasons I don't get one for commuting. You can be a very skilled boarder but all it takes is one big bump or pot hole and you will be launched. Scooters with suspension are just super stable at speed.

There is actually a bunch of things that could have prevented this. A: these devices are not really allowed on normal roads and therefore should not have been on them. B: these are going well over the design limits of these vehicles (skateboards are not really designed to go 20+ MPH, unless you have one specifically designed for it such as the giant wheel offroad ones. C: could have followed road rules and not been zigzaging between people like a jackass.

@@Huskiefluff A: Fair, depends on state and city laws but for the most part, yeah; B: Ever heard of downhill longboarding? Without motors they exceed 40 mph; C: Not really zig zagging, there is easily 10 feet between them to move around, otherwise he'd get pinched a bit going around the corner.
@Huskiefluff
@Huskiefluff 5 жыл бұрын
@@stephencrompton6480 longboards have bigger wheels, longer base, and are much wider, meaning they are designed to do that. In the us California is the only state so far that allows these electric vehicles on the road, and thats only if the *electric propulsion system* is 1000w or less, all of these vehicles are well over that standard and therefore are 100% illegal.

@AlienRides 4 жыл бұрын
You can bring many scooters into stores, but the DTX is a bit of a different beast. At 150 lbs it's massive and too large to realistically bring inside many locations. It does have some nice security measures though. The fingerprint sensor and locking wheels make it difficult to steal. I would feel comfortable leaving this scooter outside for short periods of time with those measures and also a strong u-lock.

That's fucked up. I was going to comment on the last group ride video what if somebody wiped out in front of you. That thing's a freaking tank. Luckily the outcome was not what I was thinking. I was thinking worst-case scenario that you actually ran him over and crash pretty bad yourself at a much higher speed. Be safe out there. And by the way good reflexes!👍✌edit: the reason why I said good reflexes is because you did a phenomenal job. If you would have laid on them brakes couple seconds before you did you would not have had any control over the steering and plowed him right in his back. 150 lb in the back shit would not have ended up too good. Excellent job of assessing the situation to see what direction he was going in and breaking at the appropriate time where you still had control not to run him over bad at all. He's lucky it was you behind him and not somebody else on that Beast.👍👍✌

By the way I just seen review of the kaaboo wolf Warrior. There's a company down here in Miami Florida called fluidfreeride that are starting to sell them this week. They offer free shipping, extra charger and an extra set of tires. If you get it with off-road tires they give you a set of on Road tires. And vice versa. Just under $3000.👍✌

Awesome, yeah I've seen the wolf warrior and it does look like a promising scooter. I contacted fluidfreeride a while back to see if they would send a temporary demo unit for promotion, but no luck. Maybe some day.

@@AlienRides I didn't get to tell you but the video review I watched from electric scooter guide I commented directly to fluidfreeride. I told them that I gave a shout out to my boy at alien rides about their company selling the wolf Warrior and the great deal they had going on. Never got a reply. Meanwhile the channel that showed the review for them had like only 960 views. Not a very good promotion for their company. If they were smart they would send one to you. Everybody knows Cali is where it's happening right now.👍✌

Another high speed wobble and fall glad he ok but it's shows me again the max speed to push them eskate boards and uni,s seems that approaching 40mph on them is the limit before experiencing high speed wobbles on my race bikes without a damper we normally expect this above 100mph if the berings in the neck collar or front rim is bad but on the e skate board it's the zero suspension and small diameter wheel size that makes them prone to high speed wobbles with the uni,s it's the one wheel zero suspension for stability that cause their high speed wobbles around the 40mph mark nevertheless as a day one rider I wish everyone safe fun always but crashing is part of being a Rider only we can understand but I'll take wings over a fall any day 😇

Optimus Prime well said. Every vehicle has its limits, props to those who keep trying to push the limits, but hope everyone stays safe. Fast PEVs are new and the DTX is the first factory scooter that comes with a damper for higher speed stability. It’s going to be interesting to see what develops in the next few years. I know us speed junkies are going to keep pushing manufacturers for faster and faster vehicles.

Also keep ur battery at least 20% to lose em/. must keep the engine running and never tow it with 5% charge in front of their face at choke points .To nabs: just get licence for CBT categories . izi-pizi lemon-squeezy.😎

11:16 man don’t beat yourself up, when you race you know there’s a big chance for a crash, we all take that risk every time we go faster than we should. Especially when you’re riding in a tight group on open roads it can get really sketchy, you did your best to stop and manoeuvre around him without causing an even bigger accident yourself. You actually did pretty damn well in that situation, it could have gone much, much worse man! one shared master cylinder for brakes (dual output of course) will really help reduce the temptation to skid the wheels when emergency braking. Always remember, optimal braking is just under the traction loss line. A lean to the right would have sorted you out a bit better than haunching down too, but it wasn’t exactly a situation where you could be prepared, that happened about 3m in front of you at high speed. You literally have about 1 second to react, that’s 1.5 seconds less than an average alert person driving a car. Two abreast on a lane at any time, that’s the rule here in Australia for motorcycles, any more than that and we get serious crashes from high speed anxiety with someone so close. It’s totally different when you’re racing though, but the idea remains the same still, safe passing techniques means going home at the end of the day, most of the guys riding are still inexperienced and too eager and there’s no real regulating you guys, that’s impossible ;) It would probably be a great idea to get the group together to do riding training together, practising proper techniques and pushing for the pro circuit. There are a lot of young kids riding with you guys. Ps I don’t know how many times I ate shit on my longboard when I was living in the mountains (it wasn’t electric) they can get so sketchy so easily, the speed wobbles are insane, especially on most diy systems because of motor synchronisation issues and serious peak outputs. Not to mention maybe not the best mounting solutions for some trucks and the likes 👌 I’m not gripping on anyone at all, I still love this shit, that guy knows that he fucked up bad, he lost it on a reflector by the looks of it then whisky throttled. Longboards are chronic pains in the ass for that one. I personally would like to see all road reflectors and speed bump/shoulder bumps gone for that reason alone. 😂 (but they need to stay, they’re actually usefeul)

Alien Rides cheers, I love doing analysis of things like this so I can learn for myself too, being in a panicked situation is so different to practice. Oh yeah man, there’s definitely something to be said about a riding school for PEV’s, and a proper education on the rules too. Then a racing class too of course, but it really seems like the crew you’ve been riding with are trying to pioneer this for the industry in your area already! :D Alright man, goodnight, thanks for being so responsive to all my comments, I really appreciate the time you’ve spent out of your day :)
