I've been collecting for about 35 years but now, at 82, I had a hip replacement that went south and now I have to walk with a cane. I just loved watching this video. Not only because of the collecting part.....you were smart just to pick them up and put them in the basket.....but after cleaning them, you gave your viewers a great look at all sides of these specimens. I really loved those tabbys.

We just went today and took the tour to get ideas of what to look for while digging. We were lucky enough that the rain down pored for about 15 min then when tour was over I found a beautiful 6 point cluster in the parking lot! My hubby and I realized the wet clay was were to dig he found handfuls of nice points. Praying for more rain tomorrow when we go back!

I was there that week also but they did not bring up one truck..I was alil disappointed since we drove 26 hrs from nyc...but we had fun but went to a few other places also..still a great experience..wish it wasn't so far so I could go more often....great video n cool finds!
@joedadbod84503 жыл бұрын
Oh, so sorry that your experience wasn't as good as what you had hoped! My first time there, I was kind of let down too. No new loads, and I didn't really find as much. I saw several different KZbinrs pulling out huge crystal after crystal and watched on their videos of them running load after load of new material. So, I thought that I would try it again, and did much better the next couple of trips down there (about 3.5 hour drive for me). For this trip, I left thinking that I didn't do as well, but I did better than I thought after going through all of that peanut butter clay and found several nice crystals in them that I had no idea I even had. It was a nice surprise!

Usually, from my past experience is that I dig and dig, don't find anything and move on, and literally as I walk away someone else digs there and a nice point comes out. That has happened to me a few times, actually. Ha! Thanks for watching! :)

If you go, be sure to bring sun protection and also plenty of water, because it's a wide open sky. Nice finds. I was there a few days ago and spent all day looking. No fresh dirt was dumped and I had to work really freaking hard just to find a few pieces. I don't think I'll go back there. I had much better luck at Twin Creeks. That mine had crystals just laying all over the ground.
@joedadbod84503 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry!! Some days you can get some really nice stuff, other days, not as much. I feel like I always get my admission price in crystals though. I like that they have a guarantee that they will reimburse you if you don't feel like you got your money's worth. Twin Creek is great!! I can't wait to go back one day. Thing is, I like rockhounding, and my wife HATES it, so I am unable to get out as much as I would like. So, we compromise and I only go a couple of times a year down to the Mt. Ida area. Happy spouse, happy house. 👍🏻😊

u deff wernt hitting a pocket u were diggin tailing piles - dirt that has been moved from origonal location after cherry picked for the large stuff- good finds any way
@joedadbod84503 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely tailings piles, and it's easy to use the same terminology (pocket) but mean different things. Ha! If you mine a wall, you can hit or follow a quartz vein to find where two veins merge or open up to reveal a crystal pocket. In those dirt/mud piles, you can have "pockets" of that peanut butter clay (instead of just the same dirt material), which often houses a lot of really nice crystals. That was what I was referring to, sorry about that! Thanks so much for watching, and enjoy your day today! :)

I am thinking the buckets are worth it. I think you did really good on the buckets you bought in a previous video. Do you think there is a better success rate with the buckets versus mining your own? Thanks for the cool vids i watch all the time.
@joedadbod84502 ай бұрын
I think there is a better chance of having higher quality crystals from the baskets they sell, but you have a higher chance of getting larger points (although it’ll have some damage) from the tailings that you dig yourself. Thanks for watching, I appreciate the support!!
@CodytheKing-12 ай бұрын
@@joedadbod8450 okay, thanks, i see what you mean, there will be a chance of getting some large crystals if you dig your own whereas with the buckets there will likely not be many large crystals because the bucket would be full with just a few large clusters, which would not make for a good bucket experience. thanks mate - for me, I am looking to make a few good crystal necklaces just for me and my family friends, i drive by the mine all the time and didnt know they have buckets, i can just stop by and get a bucket and be on my way with a bucket full of crystals that from the looks of it in your bucket videos would be great for a few necklaces. its a win win for me. thanks mate, keep digging! the area out there is beautiful, and one day i will have to get out there and pick some of my own crystals as well! thanks again, - tommy

do you ever find gemstones other than the crystals? what do you do with all your crystals?
@joedadbod84506 ай бұрын
At this mine, you are basically going for the quartz crystals. they have some interesting shale and other rocks, but the quartz is the main attraction at the tailings piles. I usually keep my favorite finds, give some away, and sell some to try to get back my gas money and dig fees.

The “ stinkers “ will make for a lovely rock garden. It’s a “ crap shoot “ when digging for any crystals or beautiful stones of your choice. Lovely finds, by the way....including the “ stinkers “. May I ask how much you actually paid for this “ pay dirt “? Was it the $25.00 for admission or more after you found all of these beauties? Loved your finds and video. SCORE! 👏👏👏☺️👏👏👏 ( you just answered my last question. Thanks. )

Doesn't "dry wiping" contribute to the crystal faces being scratched as the mud is removed by your fingers?
@joedadbod84503 жыл бұрын
Excellent question, and yes it can! I often do a quick dry wipe so I can get an idea of what it will look like. Before taking them home, I'll put dirt in with them in the bucket to help with cushioning/padding them while in transit. I'll do a good wash of them once I get home, and if I think it needs it, I'll let it/them soak in some Iron Out for a day or two. Thanks so much for watching!! Blessings, -Joe
