If you can't grow it or synthesize it, it has to be mined! Open pit operations: negative view: it leaves a hole in the ground and a pile of waste. Positive view: it leaves a recreational lake and some terrain for mountain biking. EU view: ban mining in Europe and import minerals from poor countries where regulations are slack and workers are exploited.
