It's really amazing (to me, at least) how completely spiritual/religious this song actually is. When read/heard literally - while they denigrate/satirize the uneducated listener's belief in a Higher Power/God they really celebrate it. 'Step by step, You climb the mountain, You Pray' - Fuck yes. You feel that you have no control over the evils of the world, that you have no earthly control to intervene - and yet you still try, you still have faith. More power to you. You f&^king Rock!!

The video version is the first time I'd heard the song, and so I preferred it to the studio version for a good while. They're both about equal now, but I do admit that I think there's some better mixing in this version - like the segment with digital/computer-esque sounds.
@scorpiontherulez68954 жыл бұрын
Name Less there’s just something better about it for me as well. The bass hits harder, it’s more raw, Al’s extra screams and grainy unmixed vocals are brutal, and to top it all off there’s extra “Sieg Heil!” sound bits which are what make the song hit so hard with every chorus.

Ah, yes. Classic Al... The album cover is an electronically processed image of a burned corpse in the Leipzig-Thekla subcamp of Buchenwald. Jourgensen took a photograph while watching a Holocaust documentary on television and distorted the image himself. According to Jourgensen, it was originally rejected by the record label, but they later changed their mind after Jourgensen cut off the head of a roadkilled deer, put it in his truck, drove from Austin to Los Angeles, went into the Sire Records building, threw the head on the desk of the head of the art department and said, "Here's your new fucking album cover."
