The parameters of the module itself are very good, I was unable to register consistent noise and ripple with the Rigol 1054Z oscilloscope (they are so small). It is a combination of a dc-dc buck-boost following converter and an LDO regulator at the output. Rarely found in cheap power supplies. Unfortunately, the device itself is too small for comfortable work, this is the main disadvantage. If only it could be controlled from a PC, would be much more useful.

I use the wireless feature! I install low voltage security systems. I remotely trigger the power supply to deliver voltage to a device im testing, which could be several rooms away. This allows me to test that a lock is installed properly without having to fuss with authentication to properly trigger the door unlocking. There are so many other uses I've been finding love this thing!

@SianaGearz Жыл бұрын
Why? Miniware stuff isn't cheap but it costs about as much as it has to. If you're short on budget, get any of the numerous panel mount modules, with 4kx being able to do a lot or things on the cheap.

just a suggestion. When making measurements with the oscilloscope, always try to maximise the waveform on the display, both on the voltage axis and the time axis (you need at least 3/4 full periods to get accurate time measurements).
@GLITCH_-.- Жыл бұрын
Yeah, most oscills only show a measurement of what is visible on screen. If the waveform is compressed, so will be the measurement.

Just another quick note from an old 'scope guy; never, never, never, use that so-called "ground lead" when looking at power supply noise... most decent probes come with a little 'spring thing' in their accessories, which slips over the ground part of the probe barrel...so, remove the hook part, which exposes the probe tip and probe barrel 'ground', slip the spring adapter over the barrel, leaving the sharp part sitting about parallel to the probe tip, and use that to connect to the 'ground' of the power supply, and the bare probe tip to the 'hot' side of the power supply. The probe and ground lead, together, form a resonant circuit at about 80-125 MHz, depending on probe capacitance and 'ground lead' length

I have this setup with the display and both the P905 and P906. Two obvious issues are that they're not isolated, so not good for a bipolar supply unless you have two isolated power sources, and the 4mm spacing which is non-standard. The display frankly is of little use to me: perhaps when {if} they have other modules that will change. A matching battery would be most welcome. The P905 isn't USB PD 2.0 compatible unlike the newer P906 which is. The UIs on the power supplies and the separate display are awful, but the build quality of all devices is excellent. My use case is a handy lightweight PSU on the go.

I use a bit older 5a version in my repairshop every day. Typical use case - inject 12v to imitate battery if i have some macbook with no spare battery and i need to isolate power issue to charging issue. Short search, temporary replacement of absent power input and of course amp oscilloscope is a real help in troubleshooting power sequence issues on pc laptops.

It's a very cool product in my mind but premium and kinda niche. If it was a very high quality power delivery like a filter without your own AC adapter especially at the voltages that really matter like 1.2/3.3/4.2/5/9/12/18/20/24 I imagine it could be a decent piece of mobile kit but I guess at this point you could just lug around a AC PSU Filter good enough for it
@lohikarhu734 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that the Miniware box is using a DC/DC converter, followed by a 'slave' linear regulator...the DC/DC would be set up to give, maybe 500 mV of 'headroom', above the dropout voltage of the linear stage, so that you get a lot of the size and flexibility of the SMPS, but with a 'cleaned up' output ...

What kind of power brick are you buying for $100? It doesn't appear to even be a USB-C supply based on the barrel jack, so I'm a little confused.
@nezbrun872 Жыл бұрын
You supply it either with a USB C adapter or through the barrel jack. The USB C is power limited to 100W as per the USB PD 2.0 spec. The barrel jack will go up is 4.2 to 30V, up to 14A.
@rokiedecentra9656 Жыл бұрын
that was just a random power supply to signify a good power supply. You will need a high quality power supply like the MeanWell shown

I hate that 'fur' of switching noise these kinds of switching supplies always seem to have. Another spec that would have been 'interesting' to verify is how many peaked harmonics of hash are present in the RF realm which can quickly become a right pain in the pahtotee at the lab bench for near field....

I'm always curious about those enclosers they used for those niche market products like this, I bet this encloser was designed for something else and they repurpose it for this power supply, maybe it was designed for a media player or so, but I don't think they design it for this power supply, the cost of tooling would be too high. Edit/ Just look up the price, that price is way higher than I thought, so maybe I'm wrong on this one. I thought it was a 50 bucks product. The price on amazon EU is 289 euro send form China, so you must pay import cost.

I agree with your final assessment, but your methodology for measuring ripple leads to erroneous measurements. 1) Maximise the waveform on the display, as other viewers have commented. 2) Your probing technique is not great. This leads to higher measurements. If i may suggest "EEVblog #594 - How To Measure Power Supply Ripple & Noise". Its a great introduction to improve your future ripple measurements.
