These videos are fantastic! My painting skill has finally risen past that of an enthusiastic four year old! Keep these up and if you're looking for suggestions, I'm wondering how to make models with more murkey colors better transitions, specifically Brown's and dark greens.

Warn armor. Like the color of the armor of a space marine that has seen lots of combat is pealing off or just scraped, worn, or blasted off.

Can you use the same technique for red eyes? I have a model with red eyes but it looks horrible. What colors would you recommend? Base color is Caliban Green. Awesome work! Totally hooked!

Hi, thank you for making these videos! Which GW paints would you use for the same effect only with a red glow?
@Winterbasse6 жыл бұрын
I think the highlights on the shoulder and neck part are too bright. The source of light (In this case the eyes) should always be the brightest and nothing can come close to the brightness of the source. The intense light blue of the eyes immediately diffuses into darker blues as it travels through the air. Because the light surrounding the eyes is less bright than the blue catching the edges, it becomes an inconsistent source of light. The blue around the eyes suggest a soft glow while the highlights suggest a harsh, strong light emanating from the eyes. I think this is the part people get wrong the most about OSL and glowing effects. Light sources are a constant gradient from light source to darkness and sharp contrasts don't work well if you're not painting the entire mini in soft transitions. As mini painters we want to often exaggerate light to catch all the interesting details you wouldn't otherwise notice, but I think with OSL we should stick closer to reality than exaggeration because it ends up looking off when we closer inspect our minis. The best way I can honestly describe OSL is by looking at pictures of people around a campfire and study how the light of the fire catches on their faces and clothes, and emulating that as closely as possible.
