I used to use a 34 lbs thrust Minn Kota Endura with same size rig and it worked fine. Only had a problem with high winds.

I really like the minn kotas. I had a 30lb thrust on an intex excursion 4 that used to do really well even in some open water. I also found the power center battery box very useful. I even charged my cell and other devices with it such as my marine radio.

You are welcome. There is nothing special except the Power Box that battery goes in.I highly recommend that. Battery I purchased at Walmart for about $80 over 3 years ago and still ha e the same one. I check button on power box and showes me if I have to charge it.I maintain it on charger or even trickle charger. Never set a battery on a concrete while storing it.It will drain it faster.

In case you're still not impressed, after watching this video, remember, The Rule of Thumb says 1HP = 22 lbs. of thrust. At 45 lbs., this motor is equal to a bit over 2HP. So if you think of it in context to a small outboard, you'll see this motor keeps up quite well. Nice video. Thanks for showing us ilhoG. -b

Power is work done per unit time, and thrust is just a force. They cannot be readily converted to one another. The power output of the motor can be directly correlated to the power draw on the battery, which Minn Kota states to be 42 amps at 12V, or about 500W. Assuming some inefficiencies, this motor is outputting around half of a horsepower.

Hi, Thank you for the video on the 45 lb thrust motor. It helps me decide to get it over 55 lb. A lot of people complaining on Amazon that after a few months of idle time or in storage, the motor is not working. Or the battery is failing or fire hazard. Are your motor and battery still working? Just an idea, but there are free apps for your phone with GPS speeds. Would have been nice to show us what the ACTUAL speed you were going was. My guess. 4mph. OMG, that is fast. Why is nobody wearing life vests since they could fall out at such high speeds.

Brian ,I went to Walmart and purchased Interstate deep cycle batterie.Group 47. 3 Years old and still good. I do put it on $4 tricke charger from Harborfreight. Once every couple weeks.Keep watter level up and they can last 5-6 years.

That is about 0.6 horse power . If you live in an area with fish that is all you need . I live an area that has more boats than fish so I travel 20 miles to catch nothing . .lol now you can say you don't need all that power to catch nothing, you can do it with 0.6 horse powerand and save your money.

Honestly I don't know exactly.We usually stay about 7-9 hours at the lake and it never ran out.After each use goes on trickle charger.

@@Funkteon a Pulse Width Modulator. It controls the motor in a progressive manner rather than the stepped way it does it between speeds. It also only draws the amps needed and so makes your battery last up to 5x longer. I made my own for about £20. There's a good video from Aksmen on KZbin showing you the parts and how to
