was in Japan in 91-93, lived in Rapongi. White Doves had just landed and everyone wanted one. Trance was overtaking House and Techno and parties and raves out of the clubs was word of mouth. The cops did not like people on E and would 48 hour lock up gaijin who had the saucer eyes. Be careful with your PED's over there, they are way more strict than they were in the nineties.

This is the rave life I never got to enjoy, as a now 37 year old who was just getting into electronic music in the late 90's and early 2000s. I am so happy there's still young bucks bringing the energy and intimacy I can only fantasize and imagine - lack of phones up in the air the whole time is wonderful! @@jvandekamp6986 Japan, in the modern era, definitely seems to have a way of putting their own spin on western and euro music trends. Japanese people have made some really excellent jazz and hiphop styled instrumental music for decades. Some of their film and videogame composers have combined classical european music traditions with their and other places' folk melodies. It seems like a natural progression that they would combine that(and 90's techno), the aesthetics of their own "techno" culture, a bit of that Kawaii or videogame cosplay "style" and end up with some kind of trippy, happy, weird music. Japan sometimes seems to be land of artistic extremes. They are deeply rooted in tons of tradition, yet hyper obsessed with futurism and hyperrealities. And due to what happened with WW2...they often looked abroad for new ideas.
