Just wanted to thank you for posting this video and explain how important this is to me. I came across this about a week ago and have watched it twice. We traveled to Minneapolis from Chicago five years ago for a summer vacation. Our son was 11 years old at the time. Although we did many activities in and around the city (Twins game, Stone Arch walk, Nicollet Mall, Univ of Minn, Mall of America, etc.), we spent quite a bit of time having fun exploring the City through the skyways. In particular, on our last night, we walked from our hotel (Stayed at the Westin that you show at 1:11:30) all the way down to Bank of America Stadium through the skyways, got out around 2nd Street (?) and got ice cream at Izzy's. In the skyways, I remember passing a Joe Mauer All-Star Game statue (you show it across from the Wok restaurant at the 4:00 mark but didn't zoom in, and then you passed the hallway at 8:08 (it's near the Dental place)). We still have a photo of my son standing next to Mauer. Thanks for letting me re-live a part of our summer vacation. It was a great memory when my son was a bit younger and life was a bit easier. This brought back so many good feelings. Thanks again!

We used to wander around the skyways in the middle of the night in college. Now they close when the offices close due to crime and homelessness. I wish the city would invest more in the skyways so that they were more accessible to everyone, and not just office workers. The lack of public bathrooms is also annoying.

Great video! The skyway system has always fascinated me! We don't have them in California. Thank you for the Mary Tyler Moore Reference at The IDS and Crystal Center. There are two opening scenes from her show. One where she is having lunch with a date at Basil's now Jolliet House at The Marquette Hotel. I had the pleasure of dining there last December at her actual table, where there is a photo plaque in her name. The second opening scene filmed there was her going on the down step escalator. It was so great to visit! The Christmas Tree and the carolers were amazing! Haha! I will always be a Mary Tyler Moore Fan! Keep them coming!

Great video! Very well narrated and smooth footage. You took your time, didn’t go too fast and gave some great information. If you ever come down here to Rochester you’ll have to walk our skyway system. Definitely not nearly as expensive as Minneapolis’ but I like it and use it every day for walking. We also have a pedestrian subway system.

This was very neat to watch. I grew up in SLP and would take the city bus to downtown to hang out at City Center, hope to see Prince outside of First Ave, go to Daytons and wish I could afford it, the IDS and be bored, and many other things kids would do in the early 80s. But, I love my old city either way, and I appreciate you exploring it for me.

The newer skyways are more sterile and unwelcoming. Waste of space. Agree need more art, etc to make spaces more welcoming

So crazy idea but what if you connected a skyway system with a monorail so you could travel quickly between high rise buildings without ever needing to be on the ground level? I know obviously such an idea would be very expensive but I think it could physically work and the economic and environmental benefit would be tremendous.

Hi Leo The best section are probably around us bank plaza, capella tower, and the ids center. Unfortunately, much of the skyway is closed on weekends so I’m not sure what the best route would be. The last time I was in there on a weekend I kept running into sections that were closed off and it was pretty frustrating www.minneapolis.org/map-transportation/minneapolis-skyway-guide/
