At some point it does start to feel unfair that her spotlight tends to drown out the other Vocaloids, but eventually it dawns on you that none of the others would exist in the first place had Miku not become the poster child of Vocaloid and you learn to appreciate her a lot more. She became my favorite, actually, so much so that I have her 01 tattooed on my shoulder now.

at the end of the day tho, they're just avatars / characters of a vocaloid 02 voicebank; some music creators even use those characters as couples to portray love stories (such as suki kirai by HoneyWorks, Hitoshizuku x Yama's Seasonal Feathers and Magical Mirror) , some as twins (daughter of evil series) and some as not related / connected at all (remote control, world domination (neru p) ) just like how we treat miku, kaito, ai, and other vocaloids, we can also image rin and len however we want them to be.

Keekydeeks I think people just think that the fandom is dead because they are still holding on to the classic Vocaloid songs from 2007-2012. Those songs aren’t bad, but people don’t realize that popular artists like Mitchie M, Giga P, and Deco*27 and so many others are still going strong to this day. It’s not that people aren’t making as many songs, it’s that you’re not looking for them.

There's definitely no need to produce new Japanese Vocaloids, only to update the current ones (V4) and possibly the older, abandoned ones as well. We have ENOUGH voice variety for that language, which is great of course. But what we really need is Vocaloids in other languages. We only have 2 Koreans, 3 Spanish, a couple of English, and a few Chinese. What about the rest of the world that are fans of the Vocaloid softwares and musicians?

That's just cause a lot of fans want to see the other vocaloids as well, but that never happens because it's always just miku. Like in the games and the concerts the vast majority is miku. This is also shown in something I read www.polygon.com/2016/5/31/11818548/hatsune-miku-concert-review-nyc-may-2016. The person who went to the concert is not a fan of vocaloid, and with no prior experience. She said it herself that Miku was on so much it was like when the others came on that those were just her friends that come on when even she has to take a break.

As an old 2012 vocaloid fan, I actually quit the fandom like in 2016-2017 and in the start of 2018, I also miss the golden days Many fanarts, and I really miss (in a guilty way) to see some kids crying over Miku x Kaito not being canon, I quickly get tired of new vocaloids as the same reason as you (They always end up forgotten, I stopped following the development after LUMI came out and I really have no idea which vocaloid can come next after her) Thanks to you, I re-joined the fandom and I appreciate your dedication for your videos, trying to reunite vocaloid old and new fans together to make vocaloid great again! Many of the popular producers from back in the day (not all, but a good portion) have retired, moved on from Vocaloid, or simply make less songs than what they used to. There are still plenty of producers now, but they don't have the advantage of broadcasting to the initial wave of fans from when Vocaloid first boomed. Even so, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Vocaloid may have become less popular but it's not likely to die out anytime soon because it's established itself as a legitimate tool and instrument for musicians.

The only one I didn't agree with was the "stop making new vocaloids" part. If we don't make new vocaloids, the fandom will get bored. A lot of the new vocals are amazing, especially the English ones. Also, imagine all the new languages that could be adapted to vocaloid. I’ve never liked Rin x Len. I love both characters and they’re super cute. But I can’t see them as a couple. They have the same last name which makes it weirder. They look too similar so they’re obviously twins / mirrors of each other. The R and L are supposed to be like the R and L on headphones apparently. Just like how they’re the Treble and Bass clefs on a sheet of music, which unsurprisingly is Len for bass (left hand piano) and Rin for treble (right hand piano) Tbf their designs were too well thought out for them to be shipped. They’re supposed to mirror each other.

I honestly don’t really like any covers of Vocaloid songs, I find that people really try to over sing, if you get what I mean. I love Mafumafu, he makes great songs, but when I heard his cover of Snobbism I just though it was way to much. I also just hate how they almost always get more view than the original, and even though they put the og in the description, everyone thinks it’s their song

I get what you mean yet I don't often listen to the original Vocaloid version of songs and listen to some of the utaite cover, but I'll admit that the original version exists. If I feel curious as to what the Vocaloid/original version sounds like. Then there are is the animation meme of Snobbism, I don't think people cared to check out the Vocaloid version of it. Just generalizing though I know there are probably people who looked up the Rin Len version of the song but the chances are most likely super low.

True I'm someone who usually prefers the original song over covers whether it's covered by another vocal synth or human (I rarely listen to human singing though, I'm not into it) I rarely hear a cover that I like over the original, I don't know but sometimes it feels like there's something missing, or the voicebank used doesn't fit with the song for me because I connect the original with its vocals

If you don't like english covers or whatever other language they're in, just don't listen to any of them, and I'm not saying that in a mean way! It's okay to dislike covers, but saying "the original is better" can be very harmful to creators because translyrics take a lot of time and effort to pull off, and not everyone can achieve a good translation, a good vocal mix, and a good vocal technique all at once. People make covers because they're very passionnate about it, and want to share their love for Vocaloid just like artists do! Covers, just like any other form of artistic creation, is a very important way of keeping the community together, and some producers don't hesitate to show their appreciation for covers because it's quite amazing to see people sing your song and put so much effort into translating and singing it. I don't know if that changes your visions of things a bit, but in any case, everyone has their own right to create what they want and if you dislike it, just skip it! ♥️

While i agree with you with pretty much everything you said, i have to disagree with the fact that all new vocaloids are flops. Yes, many of them are forgotten after 3 covers are uploaded to youtube because their voices arent special. But that doesnt mean they are inherently bad: Fukase (obv), Otomachi Una and flower all have been great successes because they actually sound _different._ Fukase's power, Una's versatility with Gender Factor (she sounds very good when doing the Shakira thingie) and flower's uniqueness (she is a very good competence for miku if you look at how many songs shes staring to get lately) are all proof that not everything has been done yet. It's more like she's over-commercialized rather than overrated, which is defined by something/someone being made out to be better than they actually are. Whereas, Miku has a solid voicebank and an iconic design, and even though she's super popular, I'm pretty sure the majority of Vocaloid fans wouldn't go around saying things like "MiKu is ThE BEst VoCALoiD ObJECTiveLY speAKinG aNd EVeryOnE eLSe SUX!!1!!!" hence, not overrated. Just absurdly popular (still love her though). 2. Ehh...I can see why people would find this ship disturbing, but I personally don't have any issues with it. Whether I ship it or not usually depends on the context (i.e. songs, AUs, headcannons...etc. For example, I'm obviously not going to ship them as their Daughter/Servant of Evil characters (Riliane and Allen) who are canon twins, but in Paper Plane I was a sobbing mess and I just wanted them to be together, y'know? Minus the Nazis and terminal illness). But all context aside, they are mirror images. Nothing more, nothing less. Whether they have a romantic or sibling-like relationship, it doesn't bother me either way. 3. Yeah, this goes without saying. I only joined the Vocaloid fandom several months short of a year ago, and even then I immediately noticed how...unlively this fandom was. You can't really expect companies to not produce a young female voicebank when those are the ones that sell best, I guess is what I'm trying to say? But in my humble opinion, despite similarities, no two Vocaloids are exact copies of each other. There are differences in their voices, and they've all got a unique charm to them. I headcannon them as dopplegangers, that way they dont have to be realted. Y E S for point two. I ship Rin x Len, but only in the songs where they aren't related, and are potrayed as lovers (e.g Feathers across the Seasons and The 13th Apocolypse). I entirely agree that shipping relies heavily on context; I'm not going to ship them in Evillious Chronicles, as they are brother and sister in that instance, but I will ship them in Maid Factor, because they both love each other and are adorable!

With the Miku being overrated one, I understand that she's supposed to be a 'breakthrough' for Vocaloid, but the thing that bothers me the most is that Crypton doesn't advertise Rin, Len and Luka as much. Breakthrough or not, Rin, Len and Luka are still creations of Crypton, and deserve as much effort for merchandise, new performances and animations as Miku does. I just don't see why they created them and basically threw them to the side. Edit: Right. People are now replying about why I didn't specify Kaito and Meiko, so I'm going to put it here. Yes, of course they deserve more love. But I understand why they are treated the way they are. Kaito and Meiko AREN'T OWNED BY CRYPTON, so I can some reasoning behind their treatment. MY point with how Luka, Len and Rin should be getting more advertisement is that they ARE owned by Crypton, same as Miku, so there is NO reason why they should be treated less. So, Yes, Kaito and Meiko do need more appreciation, BUT I didn't mention them because I see the reasoning behind not giving them as much. Luka, Rin and Len - owned by Crypton, so there is no reason behind them not getting the same treatment as Miku. -there's a difference bw "overrated" and "good". miku is good, therefore she is popular. her design and voice are definitely unique and lovely. she's the face of the industry, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. most producers use her voice, and they use her voice very well. that speaks for itself. -personally i find rin x len shippable if the song portrays it that way. like in shikiori no hane. it's more like i ship their voices than their characters, bc their voices mix so well but their characters, without the portrayal of a song to portray them any differently, just seem like siblings by default. -vocaloid is definitely past its golden days. i remember when hazuki no yume's channel got terminated, english subs that were once pumped out religiously became harder to come by. but for japanese producers themselves, there are a lot of relatively new producers who make great songs and deserve more attention from fans worldwide. moreover, producers like pinocchio-p, misumi, *luna, etc release a lot of new songs pretty often, and those are the songs i think of when i think about more recent vocaloid hits. vocaloid is dying, but not dead, and there'll always be ppl who're keeping it alive. -yeaaaaahhh the newer models/MMD/Proj Diva stuff doesn't seeeem gooood -i think only una and maybe some others were rlly big hits among newer 'loids. i agree, they just just update the old ones. male VBs especially imo. i want to see chinese 'loids get more variety, tho. newer 'loids are fine by me as long as they bring something unique to the table. -when was lencest NOT weird, my guy -i personally am a fan of english (and other languages) translyricists and cover artists bc i see the creation of derivative works as an art form in and of itself. it's rlly cool to see ppl get creative with how they interpret songs and create "singable" words from the translations. it requires skills different from creating a song or translating a song, so i see it with as much respect as i would see either of the other two. english covers take popularity from the songs they're based off of bc the listeners don't take the time to seek out the original song. that's why i appreciate cover artists who link the producer + other original credits in their desc. and talk about why they like the song they're singing about.

So I found this on my recommended and I want to say something about vocaloid is dying. I *kinda* agree with it. Let me explain (sorry for bad english) So as someone who joined this fandom in the end of 2016, I was confused at how easier it was to find 2008-2014 songs on the top vocaloid song list compared to 2015 or 2016 songs. It's also hard to find english subtitles of newer songs since some active translation youtube channel have gone. This shows newer songs have less and less attention compared to the older ones (at least in the english-speaking side of the fandom). That's very unfortunate since songs are very important in this fandom Even so, I found few people on instagram who joined the fandom in 2017 / 2018. Unpopular opinion but I think vocaloid is actually still growing despite older fans say it's dying. It may not be much, but it's still there. Also I believe Miku is still very popular at Japan. She had new merchandises, new collaborations with franchises and mobile games. She even had a collaboration with an amusement park too! I personally think as long as Miku is still popular, vocaloid still lives. She's the reason why vocaloid is popular, and she's the reason why it stays popular too

@@Sheamuscz It not even the "Story of Evil". The entire Evillious Chronicles Rin and Len are shown as twins. Behemo and Leiva (Barisol's child), Hänsel and Gretel (Tale of abandonment), Allen and Rilliane (Story of Evil), Arte and Pollo (Evil Food Eater Conchita). The entire plot line is about Len's soul trying to find Rin again in a way.

But then again, excluding that story which uses their own 'souls' they are normally seen as actors where you can ship the characters (eg man and crane in FAtS, or the two school children in SK) but not themselves. So shipping THEM is wrong but yeah.

Honestly... 1. Yeah, I love Miku and when people say she's overrated, it honestly just annoys me. 2. It's kinda understandable but I could never ship it myself. 3. I agree but I hate the thought of it. 4. I've not really seen any of it so I'm not sure, but I've never been a fan of MMD's so... 5. I've only ever been to one concert, a recent one, so I don't really know what to say about that. 6. PDX was the first PD game I ever got and I actually like some of the songs and the module collecting was OK for like a month of playing but after some time, I just bought them all. (The story was unneeded though) 7. I just can't keep track. 8. Yeah I agree, I find that stuff odd. 9. I honestly kinda agree, I never have been overly hyped for anyone who does covers apart from Oktavia, but that's because I love her voice and not because she does Vocaloid covers, like if she made original songs, I would still love her. I never have gotten the hype for others though.

I think new vocaloids are fine, it’s just that they usually aren’t original which is why they flop. There are so many vocaloids out there that it’s hard to make original ones. I think fukase did well was because his character design was like no other vocaloid and his voice was fairly original. (Developers, take note!) But yeah, since I started listening to vocaloid about 3 or 4 years ago it has kinda died out a bit :( it makes me really happy to see youtubers like you still making videos to keep the fan base alive!

i agree with almost all of them but i do get the hype of english covers cause its really cool to finally be able to understand what the lyrics in your favorite song are without reading a translation to the vocals of the song although i am confused on why they would get more views then the original

Most of these I agree with, and I hate that latest releases of Vocaloids aren’t doing so well. Like the default vocals and Sora for V5 had a bit of hype to them but it really petered out fast imo. And the V5 updates/ports for VY1/2, and Cyber songman/Diva haven’t really been advertised by Yamaha much, so people don’t seem to care I guess. Luckily, I’ve heard that Meiko, Luka, Yanhe, and Ling have been confirmed for updates, but I can’t say for sure if it’s true or not. Let’s just hope that Vocaloid gains back some of its popularity in the future with updated vbs and possibly new vb releases that actually do well

Istg I wholeheartedly agree with the 5th opinion. The i feel like the problem with the new ones are the models are wayyy too complicated and end up looking bulky, old ones looked simpler and less messy, eg. that wowaka outfit.

About the last one, it’s not only the English covers. I’m Japanese, I can read and understand Japanese writings and there are always these comments on japanese covers too about how they wish the original Vocaloid songs would get more views despite the cover being good.
