3500 are you kidding me?? I sell and restore violins from the 1800s and the early 1900s. 3500 is not a student instrument by a long shot.

Wolfy, either you're trolling or your parents must have given you a more advanced violin when you started... let me ask, how long have you been playing violin?

Uh no a starter violin does not cost $3500, you can get one on amazon for $35. For the full outfit, (case bow inc) preferably you would get at least a $100 one to start because those are pretty horrible but that was a huge exaggeration, nice reporting, A+

I can get a $3500 dollar chair too. It doesn't mean that is the only option. As someone who took orchestra and still plays violin. You can get a decent violin for about 500$s. Before you try to counter argue this, they're saying that the price of this violin is so cheap... compared to $3500 so why not compare it to the other ranges that a beginner to an instrument is more likely to get.

Wooden violin for $3500? No, I don’t think so. My full size violin with a double case (for violin and viola) cost about $1500, so get your facts straight. Also this is no achievement of the student, but more of the people who designed it.

Wolfy wait shit the restoration cost £1500. It originally cost about £3000

Wolfy basically my cousin(who previously owned my violin) had it restored - new strings, bow, etc - but when they originally bought it it cost about £3000

A wooden starter violin can cost $3500? No I got mine for $55 with a case and bow and strings.
@branflakes26008 жыл бұрын
A starter violin would cost at lest $100, and that's at the low end. A good starter instrument would be up to $200, and shortly after, you'd need to get an intermediate instrument, which alone cost around $500.
@branflakes26008 жыл бұрын
asianswag I'd wait a while before I'd get a $1000 instrument.

***** Why would a starter get a quality instrument? The instrument I have is quite capable for learning the basics and then move up to something better if i think it's something for me. You don't buy a Ferrari for your 15 year old student driver why would you pay more than a couple of hundred at most for a child to learn the basics when they are going to mistreat it. Have you ever tried to get your money back on an instrument purchased for a child? Because something is inexpensive doesn't mean it's unusable.
@RPSchonherr8 жыл бұрын
Black Knight Mine was actually a $150 fiddle that I got used on ebay by bidding smart. I might jump to $1000 if I was going to do more after I learned how to play. All my instruments I started with a cheap one to learn and upgraded as I got better and when possible I bought used to get better quality for less money.

@Renee Tate You are a rare person and obviously not a child. My first guitar was a piece of junk I paid maybe $50 for. I soon found it was terrible to try to play on so I got a better one within a few months(but not a top of the line $3000 Gibson). My violin was inexpensive but still fairly good ( a teacher at Stetson U. looked at it and said it was ok for a beginner). But, for anything I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it until you were sure it was something you were able to do and wanted to continue to do. You might buy a Steinway for a beginner if you already know how to play and can enjoy it yourself but most people wouldn't do that. Paying over $1000 for a beginner violin just doesn't add up for most people, especially when there are fairly good instruments available for much less.

they compared a $50 3d printed violin to a professional violin costing around $3500. you can get a real medini 4/4 violin for 67 with all nessicary equipment. it looks nicer, playes better, and is easier to play.

I've made one. 50~60 hours of printing time in a Geeetech prusa i3 clone. I had to modify the neck of the violin to fit on this printer, but it worked.

$3500? Yea, for a decent violin. You can acquire a cheaper, better sounding, violin on eBay for $30. Also not to mention that 3D printed items are heavy, especially at that size.

do not forget the import tax other taxes/cost thus making that 30$ ebay violin at least 160$ thus having it 3d printed saves you a lot of money. and its more customizable (in terms of color)

I would spend a bit of extra money to get a decent sounding instrument. If a school or a person doesn't have the money for a violin it's best just to either save up or not buy one because a beginner violin could be around 100-200 dollars depending where it's bought but an actual moderate to pro violin could be a couple grand. Also who has a 3D printer at their disposal but not the money for a violin?
@darknessblades6 жыл бұрын
nowdays 3d printers cost less than 180$ if you need 10 violins. as you said good budget violins cost up to 200 $ thus you spend 2000 $worth of violins. BUT if you 3d print them parts included the price will be 30 $ each thus you spend 300$ for the violins. and since they have a 3d printer now they can also print other instruments. thus lowering the total budget cost for bands.
@toast90936 жыл бұрын
darknessblade yes but you get what you pay for. If you care for the quality and sound of your violin at all then this wouldn't be a good alternative at all. I know many people who are in my highschool band that hope to play their instrument professionally and would be very disappointed to get such cheap knock offs. Let's say all instruments at schools were cheap and plastic like this one. The quality of their band would go down by a lot.

Orchestra students have been triggered. That shouldn’t even be a thing, for one it isn’t even the right size, and for two it sounds horrible and for three you’d be better buying a starter off ebay

I wonder when they'll find a perfect match of materials like wood and plastic filaments to rival the expensive violins. You could almost design chambers in it like Bose speakers to enhance the sound.

A wooden violin most certainly is not $3500(Yes some can be, but so can a guitar, or any other instrument) you can get loads of violins under 500 that are made in china. As low as 30-60 that are fine enough sounding. Also this is in Minnesota, there are plenty of music shops that sell and make their own violins. Fein Violin's on Grand, and Black Bird's Music Store on Cedar come to mind. While it is neat to be able to print a violin. This is hardly revolutionary, as they just grabbed a design off the internet. I can grab a famous work of art off the internet and print it as well. I am not the painter. Give the credit where credit is due, this is a hovalin.

I think the violin would pass off as a" beginner violin" which will be in the range of 60-150( those of not very good quality) , tbh it kinda of a try out instruments and u would most likely get irritated by the sound quality after grade 1/2. Or a regular beginner decent violin to start with would be 500-800 and likely to be change ard grade 4/5, a medicore violin I would say maybe from 1500- 7000 , and a professional recognise one by the music world would be upwards of 20thousand to millions, so to conclude it not be considered price wise with a medicore violin but instead with a "cheap beginner violin" which could be easily get below 150$. This is my opinion as a violin student. If u think is inaccurate then dislike my comment but I am just being straight forward with my thoughts. Oh and I roughly convert the $ from SGD to USD, which is somewhere 0.7- 1 if I am not wrong.

The talking head overestimated the price of a wooden violin...by a lot. A beginner violin of descent quality can be had for under $500.00. Thirty five hundred would be a professional quality violin, which the 3D printed model is definitely NOT.
