I can’t stop smiling every time I see or hear a tuba. There’s just something unique about the instrument. Same with the baritone sax, or a bass clarinet. I love the low instruments in an orchestra.

It's about playing very aggressively without using tension. Most tubists struggle with 'filling out the horn' so to speak because they either have a very low energy, languid style of playing or they tense up with anxiety when they play. If you can stay very calm, both physically and mentally, and still manage to move a lot of air, then you suddenly find you have the freedom to make whatever sound you want, smooth or sharp.

I respect the low brass because it takes lots of air Trombone baritone/euphonium/tuba especially bone cause they hold it up. And low brass kinda creates that sound that the band latches on too even trumpet horn and bassoon bass clarinet and bari sax are anchored by the low brass

When I was very little, I listened MANY times to the Columbia recording that had "Tubby the Tuba" (Victor Jory), "Peter and the Wolf" (Basil Rathbone), and Pan the Piper (Ted Tiller). But I was never all that interested in the Tuba. My own progression of instruments over the years was strange: Piano, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet. And then sometime in the middle of my life I saw a Canadian Brass concert live with Chuck Daellenbach on tuba. It didn't make me want to take up the tuba. But I sure started paying more attention to it.

I played the Tuba in elementary school and middle school. Even made it to honors band and boy choir and had no clue how to read sheet music the way most people do. I could never memorize the names of the notes but I knew how to play the notes according to where they were at on the scale, then I'd memorize the song and just not use the sheet music. 😂 I did that with math to. I had my own ways of getting to the right answer and had no idea how to do things the way everyone else was taught. I probably would've graduated school had they let me teach myself. I'm like semi autistic or something I've just never been diagnosed because I nor my parents never seen it as a problem. I can figure out the answers I just have my own ways of doing it that are faster and more effective for me.

I love the higher notes of the tuba. It's so beautiful. I also am gonna start tuba for concert Band. I play alto sax and euphonium. My director asked the euphoniums if anyone wants to play tuba cuz we don't have any this year lol so I said sure I'll Try it. I tried it and my tone is terrible and my breathing is awful. Can't sustain a note for more then 5 seconds. But I'm willing to work at it.

Ahh for most the tuba requires a double lip buzz - smaller brass instruments normally just buzz the upper lip. Tuba also requires an immense volume of air. Playing mine was a great warm up for me because it got the blood and lungs flowing.
