Minnie Driver reads a letter about a disastrous encounter with some wax strips

In August 2017, after an unfortunate encounter with some wax strips, a young lady named Hannah Scorer wrote a letter of complaint to high street pharmacy Boots.
Minnie Driver joined us to read it at Letters Live at London's Royal Albert Hall in November 2023.

I once borrowed a pack of wax stripes from a friend. Once at home I applied the first strip and ripped upwards, away from the skin. I was gifted with a purple bruise the size of a teacup. I had some words for Shelly the next day at highschool...

I love these, too funny. This one was great and coming from a man whose never tried this, go figure. But...I don't have to go through child birth to understand the absolute pain!. My hand went through the massively hot, tight rollers of an old fashioned washing machine, stuck screaming, burning, crushed bones and stuck for minutes on end....I just gave birth to myself :)

A few years ago I read reviews for hair removal creams and strips on Amazon which echoed this hilarious style of writing. Some were written by men who claimed to have used this on their "delicate bits". One was funnier than the next and I practically split a gut reading them. I hadn't laughed that hard in a long, long time. Then Amazon cracked down and censored these humorous reviews and spoiled all the fun. And reviews are once again boring and dry.

In 2010 to 2012 or so we had some very substantial earthquakes here in Christchurch, New Zealand. They knocked out the electrical power in some areas a number of times. I was at a hairdresser's shop getting my hair cut one day, when the lady who owned the shop told me about a rather hilarious incident during one of these earthquakes. In the rear of her shop was a room where things like waxings and bodypiercings were done, which only had overhead fluorescent lights, but was otherwise completely dark. It seems that there was a young lady in there getting a Brazilian wax job done, when an earthquake struck, magnitude about 5+ on the Richter Scale, epicentre only about 3 kilometres from the shop!! Of course, it knocked out all the power to the area, all the lights went out. This lead to a mad scramble in the "Brazilian Room" looking for the customer's panties and pants in the pitch dark, because they couldn't open the door to let any light in as they had no idea who was in the shop! But that wasn't the worst of it!! It seems that the Brazilian was only HALF DONE (Which do you like better, dear - this side or the other side??) and the customer had to come back a week or so later to get the OTHER SIDE DONE!!
