Those of us who experienced Minnie Riperton's music when it was released are truly blessed. Even though she passed away at 32 years old, the small amount of music she left us will NEVER cease to amaze me. Those two songs you've listened to are not 'one-hit-wonders', Angela. Some of my favorite Minnie Riperton songs are: "Memory Lane" "Simple Things" "Perfect Angel" "Light My Fire"

What you just said was the most honest shit I ever heard in 63 years. But trust me IT HAS happened more frequently than not that first meeting became a long lasting marriage. It was how Minnie felt about her husband and the father of her children. Minnie was 31 when she died. But I have seen Minnie on talk shows in the 70's and how respected and adored Famous actors, sports figures, comedians, musicians and other singers both black and white gave the most reverent respect. Minnie was an National Treasure. She is mostly known for her ballads...But Minnie could Rock with the best of them. But her iconic WHISTLE is pure Ecstasy R.I.Pleasure Minnie.😍❤❤❤❤

She was not only a great voice, she knew how to use her awesome voice to transmit emotions, and that's what made her great besides her vocal range. A true artist doesn't have to scream during all the song trying to presume his/her vocal range. True talent, gone too soon. RIP.

Yes, Minnie Riperton's remarkble range and sensual, seductive, soulful vibe are legendary! Gone way too soon! But her spirit and legacy live on through her daughter Maya Rudolph...to whom Minnie dedicates the end of her hit song, "Lovin' you" lovingly vocalizing, "Maya, Maya!" Rest, peacefullly in Heaven, "Songstress!" 🙏🏾💕♬🎤🎶

In the 70's and early 80's record companies would literately throw money at the Artist, and told them to make some great music, the artist would even use a live rhythm section, even down to the to the Album's cover art. This was clearly the best time for R & B music. Earth wind and fire, LTD, heatwave, Donna summer maze and Franky Beverly, Mothers Finest, Rufus....ETC Technology hurt this industry in so many ways. then people started becoming selfish, and kept the advance money...Music is in a sad state now

She was so young o be passing on😢. Her last album I believe was called Memory Lane, which was an album of duets where she had recorded her parts before she died & some of the duet partners were recorded after. There is a recorded video of Minnie singing the title track on a t.v. show, like a laid back medium tempo beat. Thing is it was probably one of her last performances & she knew of her diagnosis. If you check Stevie’s song Creepin, you can hear Minnie in the background & when you listen closely you can hear her with that seductive quality.

If you loved "Loving You" and this song, this song has been sampled heavily. If you get a chance, listen to the studio version, and see how long she held that note for. Such a voice, such a great singer, and what a great song! Another song you might like is "Baby This Love I Have", give that a go when you have a chance. I forgot to mention Trina Broussard covered this song on the 'Love Jones' soundtrack, a very good cover.

Actually Minnie Riverton was interviewed about this song. It was written by a male songwriter. The song was not about sex but being in tune with each other spiritually, emotionally, mentally. All encompassing true love. Google the interview.
@tommccarthy3052 Жыл бұрын
She co-wrote it and one of the "male songwriters" in question happened to be her husband...for whatever that's worth. So, presuming he wrote the lyrics then there's some additional context.
@stannote831229 күн бұрын
@@tommccarthy3052 True, she co-wrote it with her husband, Richard Rudolph, but the main writer on the tune is the gifted, deceased Mr. Leon Ware. His songwriting and arranging style are prominent in the song. Among the songs Leon wrote or co-wrote are Michael Jackson's "I Wanna Be Where You Are;" Quincy Jones' "If I Ever Lose This Heaven," Maxwell's "Sumthin Sumthin" Marvin Gaye's "I Want You," the Main Ingredient's "Rolling Down A Mountainside," among many others.
