I sat next to Minnie on a flight to Chicago, back in the early 70s and she confided she was uncomfortable flying. We talked easily throughout the flight and she didn't realize the flight was over until we touched down. As we were disembarking, she thanked me for making her feel at ease and surprised me with a kiss on the cheek. Truly, I was Kissed By An Angel and her gesture stands as a memorable highlight in my 77 years on this planet. RIP Minnie, you are missed by many, including myself.

Will somebody wear me to the fair? (To the morning, sing a lovely flower) Will a lady pin me in her hair? Will a child find me by a stream? Kiss my petals and weave me through a dream For all of these simple things and much more a flower was born It blooms to spread love and joy faith and hope to people forlorn Inside every man lives the seed of a flower If he looks within he finds beauty and power Ring all the bells sing and tell the people that be everywhere that the flower has come Light up the sky with your prayers of gladness and rejoice for the darkness is gone Throw off your fears let your heart beat freely at the sign that a new time is born

I mean, it really didn’t make any sense, but Us is honestly more of just a ‘well that just happened’ kind of movie. Logic is its enemy, so just watch it like a dream.

The mastermind behind this sound and arrangement is Charles Stepney...an absolute musical genius who was classically trained. Stepney was also was the real sound behind Earth Wind and Fire...but Maurice White and the record companies stole the credit after Stepney’s death in 1976. Eventually White had to settle with the family years later.

[Verse 1] Will somebody wear me to the fair? (To the morning, sing a lovely flower) Will a lady pin me in her hair? (Mmm mmm mmm) Will a child find me by a stream? ([?]) Kiss my petals and weave me through a dream [Chorus] For all of these simple things and much more, a flower was born It blooms to spread love and joy, faith and hope to people forlorn Inside every man lives the seed of a flower If he looks within he finds beauty and power [Bridge] Ring all the bells, sing and tell the people everywhere that the flower has come Light up the sky with your prayers of gladness and rejoice for the darkness is gone Throw off your fears, let your heart beat freely at the sign that a new time is born [Verse 2] May mosaydee kaylie lowya roses (May mosaydee kaylie lowya roses) Say money ain't na na no oh na (Mmm mmhmm mmm mmm) Looking for vayda tay breeze (Looking for vayda tay breeze) May mosaydee kaylie lowya roses (Mmm mmhmm mmm mmm) [Chorus] For all of these simple things and much more, a flower was born It blooms to spread love and joy, faith and hope to people forlorn Inside every man lives the seed of a flower If he looks within he finds beauty and power [Outro] (Na na na na, na na na na na na) (Na na na, na na na na na na na) (Na na na na, na na na na na na) (Na na na, na na na na na na na) (Na na na na, na na na na na na) (Na na na, na na na na na na na) (Na na na na, na na na na na na) (Na na na, na na na na na na na)

So this song is used at the end of the film “Us” by Jordan Peele. Maya Rudolph is Minnie Riperton’s daughter. Maya Rudolph is the voice of the Hormone Monstress in Big Mouth. Jordan Peele voices Duke Ellington in Big Mouth. So Jordan Peele is friends with this artist’s daughter. (Bonus fact Jordan Peel is married to Gina from Brooklyn 99)

@tonygohagan27664 жыл бұрын
@@deeday763 It's one of those unsolved mysteries; that even the wonders of modern tech cannot answer, apparently! I found threads that go back as far as 2005 and i only scratched the surface. I always thought it was Hawaiian. She sang Opera, so could be Latin. Creole has been suggested. If it were French, we'd know, right? Then there's this: "The initial Stepney/Rudolph collaborations yielded five songs for Minnie's Come To My Garden. The most famous of them is "Les Fleur," a lovely meditation written from the perspective of a flower. Stepney's music for "Les Fleur" was first recorded a year before by classically-trained jazz piano virtuoso Ramsey Lewis on his Cadet album, Maiden Voyage. Stepney used Minnie on Ramsey's version, singing a lovely refrain that, in reality, was just so much melodic jibberish. To this writer, it sounded like a little girl trying to say something to her mother about a rose she'd just picked. Or maybe "Mable, Katy, Sadie, Loya" were the names of women Minnie or Charles considered to be like roses in their lives. Richard (Rudolph, her Husband) wrote lovely words for these melodies which became the first verse of Minnie's version, but (Charles) Stepney (Arranger, Unsung Musical Genius who would go on to work with Earth, Wind and Fire) retained the mysterious phrases for the second verse. To fans who've tried to decipher what language Minnie is singing in or what it all means, you are hereby free to use your imagination."
