Great video. I always thought the minnows were better. I have used maggots in the past. Side note: I like the way you cast and don't cut the film on the fish you catch. You actually give us a realistic expectation on how many casts or how long it takes to catch fish. DON'T CHANGE. Keep up the good work. Happy Thanksgiving.

After using the Gulp maggots for 2 years, I found that my own personal best method is to use lightweight braided line, a very small float and no sinkers. The braided line without sinkers causes the bait to drop super slow in the water, and that natural falling bait effect is what gets em. If you don't get a hit within 5-10 seconds, reel in about a foot to bring the bait back up to the surface and let it drop again. I had many great bluegill and yellow perch meals thanks to this technique.
@RealisticFishing5 жыл бұрын
Thats what I am doing with these but I only let it lift and drift about 6 inches because of the spit shots. It keeps it closer to the strike zone and not up on top where they definitely aren't.

When your trout season arrives you can use the gulp maggots to tip the hooks on spinners and jigs. Sometimes a gulp maggot behind a rooster tail, blue fox, kastmaster etc is the little bit extra it takes to get the bite.

Hey, I took a 15 year old young man out for his first try at at bass fishing, Monday afternoon. He had fished for panfish and catfish but never bass. He didn't have a bit of trouble feeling when he had a fish on. He did have trouble setting the hook but he got two bass almost to the boat. It was a wonderful couple of hours being a guide for him. He helps me with my outside work and we had done a couple of chores and completely cleaned up my little Baby Bass Boat. I had just respooled all my reels. We kept talking about fishing while we cleaned the boat. He was complaining he hadn't been fishing in a while and that he had never tried bass fishing. I pay him by the hour and asked him if he was willing to give up his pay to go fishing and he broke out in a great smile. It was a great time for both of us.

I use fine bobbers to fish for carp and crucian, or some small fish here in Europe, when a boat or a comercial vessel passes I swear like a sailor, because it messes with your bed of fish food that you precisely prepared exactly one meter behind the bobber. When I rig plastics under a float, I like to use small jig heads, and no split shots. I think it looks a little bit more natural, especially if it's a minnow looking bait, and better to hook fish because the hook is hanging horizontal instead of vertical. I would think it's easier for the fish to just swim behind it and eat it. Who knows though, it could be one of those confidence things.
@RealisticFishing5 жыл бұрын
If you let the minnow rest at vertical, you are doing it wrong. The slow lift and drift is way better without the jig head.

I have a lot of success with both. I use the maggots on a Tenkara fly rod and a #12 or #14 hook. I find that hooking down through the nose and pushing it along to cover most of the hook works best. Bring the point out just above the tail of the maggot. I do the same with the minnows on both the fly rod and an ultralight spinning rod, drop shot or with a bobber. I've caught small bass on the minnows with the fly rod by rolling it out there and stripping it in. (There's no reel, so it's the tenkara version of stripping) Sidebar: Boaters up there are a pain in the ass. At least it looks that way. Tight lines!
