Man I love the weight of this camera. It's hefty in a good way. It's kind of hard to describe. Only someone who's held one will know. I've held other film cameras and they just don't "feel" the same. And let's talk about that shutter button for a sec. Holy cow it's the most satisfying shutter button I've ever pressed. You feel the whole camera vibrate and it's just so freaking personal. Damn I love it.

I have a Leica R3 Mot Electronic that belonged to my father and while it’s film advance is broken, the film can be advanced by winding it from the bottom with a coin. I love the camera and am thinking of getting an XE-5 because it’s very similar and I have a lot of good Minolta lenses

A fantastic camera. I have an XE1 (XE7 in the USA) that is identical except for a few more functions. What very few know about these cameras is that Minolta created what would be the first matrix measurement in an SRL as the previous CLC system used by the SRT 101 and 201 was improved. Unlike Nikons that used a digital Matrix system, the Minolta was analog.

Two CDS cells mounted on either side of the pentaprism. Combined with an LSI circuit (a small computer, VERY new in 1974) . Vertical travel shutter, with TITANIUM blades. Titanium was a strategic metal in those days. The shutter was also controlled by the LSI. XE-1 can do double exposures and some other things which I forgot. There's also a PC flash socket just below the lens release button. I used a Braun BVC flash which was VERY powerful.

I bought one in 1977, Fantastic machine. Only problem: the on off switch broke twice.Wit a 1,7/85mm, 2.0/28mm, 1.8/35mm, 2.8/135mm and a 5.6/250mm RF. The latter lens I bought in Germany when at Photokina. For DM 400. Sold it in 2018 for EUR 900. It turned out to be a collectors item. I still miss the Minolta focussing screen on my current DX camera.

It will operate mechanically (without battery) at the "X" flash sync speed and "bulb"
