Thanks for the video. I bought an as-is model from KEH with the hopes of repairing it. The meter worked but the advance lever would ratchet over and over without the shutter tripping. I was able to manually trip it from under the bottom plate a few times, but then everything locked up. I assume that was all that was left of the caps?

Great video. I have X70 with symptons likely resulting from these capacitors. Can you Pls advise which part number (or specs on uF, V, size..) of the capacitors I should buy for replacement? Thank you.

Great video. I wish we hat commentary. Short question: Would you recommend I replace all capacitors? I just got my Minolta XG-M and it fired ok for 5 days. Then it suddenly stopped working. I can see the LEDs working in the viewfinder until I try to fire. When I do, the LEDs turn off and only turn on again after I turn the camera off and on again. From the stuff I read online, the capacitors are most likely faulty. I haven't opened the camera but I will do so in a few days when I have more time.

Thank you. I'll try to post another video with a voice over once a suitable camera becomes available. I would certainly recommend replacing all three - one on the bottom and two on the top.

@@GarrysCameraRepair I've got an XG-M that needs the lower cap replaced for your next vid lol. I'm just having trouble justifying spending money to fix it to be honest. I was only going to sell it anyway, with a flash and a couple of lenses. Wish your shop was closer.

@@a415man Sooner or later those caps will leak. It’s just a matter of time unfortunately.

@@GarrysCameraRepair You are right of course. Thought I would try my hand at replacing at least the bottom cap to see if that fixes it, but all of the ones I can find are 8x12mm and are too big to fit in the space. Looks like the orig is about 5x8mm. Where the heck can I find these things in smaller sizes?

@@a415man Look them up on Mouser electronics. They have wide variety electronics including caps for this particular model.

Hi Gary, what are the symptoms of the bad capacitors? I have an XG-M and the shutter won’t fire sometimes even with proper exposure. Is this related to the bad caps? Thanks in advance.
@GarrysCameraRepair3 ай бұрын
Hello. There are various symptoms to failing caps - failure to release shutter, light meter LEDs going out after pressing release button, no power to the camera at all.

@@GarrysCameraRepair Thanks Gary. I noticed the shutter doesn’t want to fire only when in “A” mode on the shutter speed dial. If I manually set a shutter speed it will fire every time. Using the meter to tell me the recommended shutter speed I’ll just shoot manually I guess. I’m on my first roll of film after inheriting the camera from my dad. Wish me luck and thanks for the response!

Thank you for your comment. I will try to post replacement of the focusing screen video as soon as we get one needing that service.
