Minor damage after 4.8 earthquake hits New Jersey

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake centered in northern New Jersey shook the region on Friday morning. The quake was teh strongest to hit the area since 1884. FOX 5 NY's Michelle Rodriguez has the story.

I’m from the east coast and was in punta Cana during the Puerto Rico earthquakes in 2019 and can confirm I did not get out of bed and it was a 6.somthin 😭 Buddy talking bout an explosion It barely even woke me up.

When everything started shaking, I was at work, thinking that they were drilling the walls or something. It wasn't until 10 minutes later that we found out it was an earthquake. NJ is on a fault line, but it's relatively inactive. Last earthquake this strong was almost 250 years ago.

A 4.8 is just about like a big truck hitting a bump out on the street, really. It's nothing. A 6.0 feels like somebody trying to wake you up by bouncing a mattress. A 6.5 that lasts thirty seconds or so starts to be a problem, but it's still only going to knock stuff over, maybe break a few windows. If this is how half of the country responds, you need more experience. So I hope it gets followed up by a much bigger aftershock that you all can learn better from, because this hype is pitiful and embarassing.

The winter storm is more common, but far more serious, yet the curiosity of a little Earth flutter gets all the attention. The only job of news outlets consists in curating and reporting the news in order of importance to inform the public, not to pander for attention and clicks. Shameful and embarrassing.

We are nowhere near a fault line, the edges of the North American Plate are down south near Florida. While we are closer to many rifts systems (such as the New Madrid Seismic Zone) the probability of having a earthquake is quite low, though obviously not impossible. May I ask you to provide evidence?
