Just coming back to say, after watching tens of youtube videos about learning how to solo, this lesson was the very first to explain what 'tageting the chord tone' actually meant, and how to do it. I'd heard that expression lots of times, but the so-called teachers never really went into how to do it, like you do in this lesson. Thank you again, for this lesson - you have put me on the right path and led to me improving as a guitar player.

Can’t tell you how good it is to read this, thank you for the comment. And of course, you are welcome as well! I’m so glad this has been helpful! I remember that same feeling of having heard the term over and over but never having an effective starting point laid out for me. Then I found this logic and it all started moving quickly after that. Glad you’re here!

Yes triads are always going to be useful, and ultimately you'll want to create arpeggios for each of the chords. But here we're just looking at the roots inside the "parent" pentatonic scale.

@@curiousguitarist Thank you for your kindness Chris! Yeah, your word curious is running through me in all I think and do now!! LOL!! I am glad you responded back to me as reviewing this video this morning, I slowed it down on the 4 and the 5 octaves....mapping it out...on 6:35 when the chord changes to F...and then G...notes..well now, even though I knew that, it hadn't imbedded yet into my mind..lol! You just show it perfectly!! Thank you... now I have to do that through all the rest of the notes... and I have also begun your practicing by using the circle of 5th's... Chris, I am going to elect you as one of my best teachers!! 😂💞 Thank you!! Oh, I was CURIOUS if you do have a video demonstrating what just the 1-4-5 octaves running through with the circle of 5ths? That would be one I would love to do now!! I will do it on my own, but I thought I would ask you, and if you don't have a video like that, maybe it is another idea for you? maybe you might want to do that!!?? Awesome Chris!! thank you, I really appreciate it. It would be great also to use in a blues song as a demo... maybe that could be the next video... another idea..lol.. do a video on the curious method 1-4-5 and then a curious -What song could we apply this to? video! So, learn the application of theory and then apply in a song. It is funny, because this is my theme today. I have been focusing on Minor blues... in my guitar, keyboard, and harmonica along with improvising... and then I was able to do an overblow on hole 6, so now I have to find some ways to practice it and enjoy it over a song. I am finding that my guitar, harmonica, and keyboard are all working together in learning.. It may be slow and a bit complicated, but I am beginning to really blossom from all this!! LOL! Most of all... I keep CURIOUS!! as you say!! 😅 Thank you again Chris!! ♥

Great lesson as always! I would advise anyone to practice hitting those notes over and over until it becomes natural to just "know" or "feel" where they are in any pentatonic shape you're using. When you don't have to think about basics is when it gets fun and you start doing things you didn't know you could do.

CHRIS, try to make a lesson about target notes for each mode, to convert the top 100 blues licks into target notes for each mode like harmonic minor Gary Moore used in his blues playing and Ritchie Blackmore used phrygian dominant and double harmonic minor target notes in his blues licks. Try to make a video lesson about it
@curiousguitarist
@curiousguitarist 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I need to do a minor blues video for sure!!! Each one of those examples requires the actual chord progression to support those scales. The Thrill Is Gone is another example of Harmonic minor being "suggested" by the chords. And FWIW, Phrygian Dominant is a mode of Harmonic Minor....same scale, different starting point.
@waynegram8907
@waynegram8907 2 жыл бұрын
@@curiousguitarist yes it is but phrygian dominant has these "target notes" b2, M3 and M7 so its different compared to harmonic minor because its 2, m3, b7 so those are the target notes. The Target Notes make the big difference in each mode. The chord progressions mostly use VAMPS in jazz to use modes but the jazz horn players will focus on the target notes on each mode.

Just learn the 5 shapes of the pentatonic scale. Then play them to jam tracks or songs you want to improvise on and in a few months you will find that you are hitting the right note on the changes without thinking about it. Its way easier than guys who have to make a new video every few days let on. These videos will confuse you more than anything else.
