I love that you talk about reading those with opposing viewpoints. I'd read some Marx recently myself, and discovered that from a philosophical standpoint I actually agree with a lot of what he says. It's obvious that he's well studied in philosophy both classic and the more contemporary for his time. Once you get to his economic theories, however, his lack of true understanding of the subject is made clear. Straw men attacks start to appear everywhere, and much of the basis for his system is really sweeping generalizations that don't hold water when scrutinized. If you study Marx as a man, his lack of financial knowledge is quite evident. He came from wealth, yet despite a constant allowance from his family and Engels, he was always living in squalor after squandering the money given to him. When reading about how he lived, it's pretty easy to understand that if you are the type that won't take responsibility for your own failings, it would be easy to make a scapegoat of those who are so successful where you are not. Mix that with a brilliant and convincing philosophical mind, and it's easy to see how those who are of the same mindset as Marx can so easily take up his banner.

Danielle, yes, you want it to be harder early when your body can take harder. I’m 58 and went through a horrible divorce that wiped me out and had to start over at about 50. So the # 1 advice is start early and invest!

G’morning from Melbourne, Australia. What is the best way to get into the U.S property market? We have a relative who lives in Delaware, would it be easier if we did a JV with her? As a beginner in the U.S market, which state, you recommend we start in? Robert Kiyosaki says, best to do closer to home (in this case - Delaware). The reason we want to do this is that - 1. The U.S market is much larger than the Australian one; 2. Interests rates in Australia can only be fixed for 5 years.

Lets not forget the damage to our society from trying to make everyone invest in real estate. Land is an essential limited resource required to provide housing. This imbalance on the demand side where people ("investors") are buying more and more properties to simply make money is removing the ability for people to have the security of simply owning their own home. Forced to rent and subject to a lifetime of rent increases. Commodity trading always artificially distorts the real supply and demand for that commodity. This is unproductive capitalism and ultimately damaging to the productive side of the economy that works to provide goods and services.
