Always liked Sato to be supervisor, no episode cokes close to Episode 64 until Cockpit in the buu saga. Maeda always had trouble catching up with the new style but He nailed The Vegeta manga he did 🔥🔥🔥 both talented Relics

You're right about Maeda, not catching up to the evolving style, the first King Piccolo vs Goku episode, was the best example of that. Masaki was really accurate to the manga look, Goku looked older, more mature and a bit slimmer, while in the next episode, he's back to looking cute and stubby, even when I first watched it as a kid, I noticed this lol

Sato is definitely in my in my top 3 dbz animators for sure. In my opinion his work fit Dragon Ball Z the most when the manga used lots of hatching. I usually don't like it when the characters are too angular/rough but with Sato it's an exception because of the really good lines and shading.

I really like Meada's art for being so expressive and for how his work as character designer would define Dragon Ball's look up until the Cell arc and. For Sato I also really enjoyed his art for being a really detailed with the hatching and his effects work that made the fight scenes more visually engaging. If I had to choose I leaned more towards Sato's work, though that isn't to take away Meada's importance to the series visuals.

In my opinion Masaki Sato is my favorite of all the animators within Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, I like how dynamic, fresh and very unique type of drawing he had.

Sato is really good at drawing dragon ball and his animation on dead zone was really good. He is one of my favourite db animators.

Sato as Supervisor + Eguchi as Key Animator is my dream combo. Nakatsuru is also fantastic, and Yamamuro in his prime in the early-mid 90s was god like.

Great video!!! So enjoyable to watch and always learning new things. I really love both of their work. I really love how expressive Maeda can be with the faces (See Goku's clenched teeth while he brings ki from his fist down in the Cha La Opening)! Both have rougher line art during that 1988-1990 period. Dead Zone's art is my ideal look to DBZ overall with the Recoome vs Vegeta episode right up there. I do love Sato just as much with his bold line work and amazing understanding of volume and anatomy. His timing for animation I really enjoy as well. Dream team, I really can't pick a favourite. I also think Maeda allowing his team's art shine through is one of the best things an art director can do. Really a based move for lack of better terms haha

I have never been a fan of the Dr Slump rounded style but even putting preference aside I think Sato's work just pops in a way Maeda's doesn't. Though Maeda I think does better in non action scenes. Let's have an entire best Bulma video? She needs more focus than she's gotten since Super's Trunks arc.

I love these guys works! I wish Sato worked on Dragonball Super and the Broly movie. Imagine how beautiful the art would look if he contributed. His art skills is top notch! I like Maeda's approach of supervising. He let the other animators art shine. He's a pretty great character designer over all.

Super Broly looked like One Piece with all the rounded forms and lack of detail to the faces and muscles, not to mention that awful Adobe Flash outline look. Sato had his own modern drawing of Goku and it looked far better than Toriyama's bobblehead modern designs.

If I'm being honest, I think Uchiyama should step down and let Maeda supervised some of Buu Saga episodes. I'd have his rough and somewhat outdated style over the complete unpolished and failed bad take of Toriyama artstyle from Uchiyama. At least Maeda seems to know what he's doing, he know that he can't keep up with Toriyama's style in Android Saga onward, but he didn't want to make the character didn't look like the current artstyle, so he came up with hybrid approach of early and current artstyle in that era, and it actually worked as the character still look like themselves despite some outdated traits, not weird looking like Uchiyama. His work in Movie 7 was very rough but his last contribution in Trunks OVA and Super Trunks VS Cell episode is actually an improvement.

I heard he became a character designer on a series after Cell Saga, but I kinda think he could just made character designer and be done with it. Nakatsuru, while become a character designer for Buu Saga, had no involvement in animation process. I never see him contributed any key animations and chief supervising in Buu Saga and remaining Z movies.

Sorry but it's impossible not to care for Sato's art style, he was pretty much vintage Toriyama animated, with how accurate his scenes were, compared to the manga, though slightly better. If you didn't like his style, then you didn't Toriyama's peak as an artist, which I would say the end of the original DB to the Frieza saga.
