Welcome to Minos 2023, the annual UK MicroMouse Conference! In this insightful presentation, esteemed speaker Peter Harrison takes the stage to unravel the intricacies of the software structure required for a maze-running robot, specifically focusing on the fascinating world of Micromouse technology.
Micromouse robots are small autonomous vehicles designed to navigate complex mazes as quickly and efficiently as possible. However, achieving such a feat involves a sophisticated software system capable of executing a series of tasks seamlessly. In this talk, Peter Harrison dissects the essential software tasks that a maze-running robot must perform and illuminates how they can be assembled to create a cohesive and functional software framework.
As the cornerstone of any successful Micromouse robot, the software tasks play a pivotal role in ensuring precise and intelligent navigation. Peter Harrison expertly guides the audience through each task, shedding light on their significance and interdependence. From sensor integration to mapping, path planning to motion control, participants gain invaluable insights into the inner workings of these remarkable robots.
Throughout the presentation, Peter shares practical examples and real-world applications, allowing attendees to grasp the underlying principles behind the software structure. He outlines various algorithms and techniques employed in the different stages of maze exploration, emphasizing the importance of optimizing performance while minimizing computation time.
By the end of this talk, viewers will have a comprehensive understanding of the software tasks involved in designing a maze-running robot. Peter Harrison's expertise and engaging delivery ensure that participants leave equipped with the knowledge and inspiration to tackle their own Micromouse projects.
Stay tuned for the upcoming talks at Minos 2023, where experts from the field will delve deeper into the fascinating realm of Micromouse technology, unraveling new possibilities and advancements in this ever-evolving field. Don't miss out on this extraordinary opportunity to expand your knowledge and be a part of the cutting-edge MicroMouse community.

I started a club at a company 12 years ago but an encoder on a motor was broken when fitting a cog and a new motor was £160.too much at the time. Silver heatsinks, when i think about robot wars this is less costly but more thinky. Like the dont touch tip for start, with all the sensors you can create a menu.embedded 101. looking forward to new sucesses.

A lot of the discussion was about detecting a forward wall reliably. Would ultrasonic sensor facing directly forward mounted so it was central and parallel to the robot’s centre line give a reliable distance reading? Or would that type of sensor also be affected by reflections from sidewalls?

Some mice do use ultrasonics, the main problem is speed, most mice try to sample sensors 1000 times a second, also some mice do put an extra front sensor in the center. Then main reason to have two front sensors is to steer down diagonal sections and it also allows you to correct alignment errors using the wall in front.

@@MicroMouse I am not an expert, just discovering this stuff. But I have found you can cheaply get TOF - time of flight laser sensors. They are really small and can give a distance. They don't seem super, super accurate but that may just be my initial trial. Super, super interesting.

@ivangutowski This mouse uses them, they are a bit slow for a fast mouse but are getting better all the time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHPIZJuaqZaDY5o
