4K Minsk, Belarus - Diving Downtown - Independence Avenue (original sound), September 10, 2021

Friday, September 10, 2021. Minsk on the eve of the City Day. It's +24 outside, a real summer day. We drive along the central street of the city - Independence Avenue.
The main Minsk avenue was created in the post-war years on the site of the destroyed streets of Sovetskaya and Borisovsky tract. Its length is over 15 kilometers, its width at different sections is from 48 to 70 meters.
Together with the adjacent streets, Nezavisimosti Avenue is the world's largest and most integral building complex in the Stalinist Empire style. In the early 1990s, the central section of the avenue was included in the Code of Monuments of History and Culture of Belarus, and in the 2000s, UNESCO experts announced the possibility of including a two-kilometer section of the highway in the World Cultural Heritage List.
During the construction, the avenue was named Stalinsky, after the cult of personality was debunked, it was renamed in honor of Lenin, then it was named after the Belarusian and East Slavic first printer Francysk Skorina, and in 2005 it became known as Independence Avenue.
However, the highway routing itself is more ancient than the middle of the twentieth century. For the first time, the street on the site of the current avenue appeared in 1801 and was called Zakharievskaya - in honor of the first civil governor of Minsk Zakhary Korneev. During the first and second German occupations (1918 and 1941-1944), the street was called Hauptstrasse, during the Polish (1919-1920) - Adam Mickiewicz.
On Independence Avenue, there are iconic monuments of post-war "Stalinist" architecture: the Main Post Office, the building of the KGB, GUM, the Palace of Trade Unions, the Belarusian State Circus, etc. Here you can also see several miraculously survived pre-war buildings: the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the observatory, the National Academy of Sciences and others. In addition, such important modern objects as the Palace of the Republic and the National Library are located on Independence Avenue. The first (Moscow) line of the Minsk metro runs under almost the entire highway. By the way, it is thanks to Independence Avenue (or rather, its oldest part) that Minsk is sometimes called the "City of the Sun".

Спасибо за солнечную съемку, редко у нас такие дни бывают. Жаль - вместо красивого и необычного вокзала забор из тряпок. Бесплатная идея - показать город при фашистской аккупации, и как раздолбил пустой город жуков (немцы неделю как отступили), показать места, уничтоженные ныне и что на их месте.
