I can't express in words how happy I am that you chose this game to share with everyone. One of my favorites for it's unique story-telling and inventive mechanics, there's really nothing else like it. Congrats on keeping the darkness at bay and shining a light on this gem.

What an awesome adventure this game has been! I used to read about this game in the nintendo power magazines at my school’s library but thought it would be too scary to play, and later when I started thinking cosmic horror was cool this game came back onto my radar but I never tracked down a copy. So I’m super glad that you decided not just to give it a try but to really get into it and explore and experience what it has to offer! I know it’s not optimal or whatever but I always appreciate that when you stream a game you’re trying to get the most out of every bit of it rather than chasing the summit of completing it. This has been a great series of streams to watch, something fun and cool and different to look forward to (and to rewatch when minto is away uuuuu), and I’m so happy it’s been part of your comeback journey! So thank you, and congratulations!

Congrats on defeating the Eternal Darkness! It's kind of fitting how clutch it was at the end. The game definitely had a few janky moments but overall it was pretty fair and I liked some of the chapter stories a lot. Stuff like the pillar of flesh was metal and it was pretty funny how the final guy before Alex ends up just demolishing every enemy with his soldier loadout. It really makes you wonder if Xel'lotath could even beat humanity but I guess maybe she could only be hurt my magic? It was kind of crazy how someone trusted the mail service with the essence of Ulyaoth and a magical sword. Guess Rhode Island deliveries must be really reliable since if it was a day late the world would have ended. o7 bone daddy Pious. He would have won if he'd just used a gun.

Thank your for finishing this PARGON journey of a game PARGON Mint! Having a Gamecube growing up, I would always see this game in stores and wondered how the game looked like but never got it myself because I was too much of a chicken to play most scary/horror games back then lol 😅 Thank you again for playing this very interesting game for us boss! Much like Metal Gear, I believe that it's the type of game that I can appreciate it much more now than I would back then! 😌 Have a good meal and a nice rest day tomorrow! I almost never comment twice on a video, but I just wanted to drop this plot summary of Eternal Darkness for anyone finishing Mint's playthrough of the game. Sorry if it's a bit of a wall; I trimmed down it down as much as I could, but it's a story-heavy game. Summed up from the perspective of Mint's playthrough: Drawing inspiration from the literary works of H.P. Lovecraft, Eternal Darkness takes place in a universe where humanity’s existence is threatened by a race of malevolent eldritch gods known as the Ancients, cosmic beings who have existed long before Earth’s formation. For millennia the Ancients have been held at bay by Mantorok, an earth-dwelling deity known as the Crawling Chaos, but it has been a long, arduous battle, one that he has slowly but surely lost. Now, with Mantorok bound and dead, salvation falls into the hands of a few starcrossed humans. Selected by fate, misfortune, or something greater, these are normal people from all walks of life: doctors, students, slaves and soldiers, pushed to the forefront of an invisible war. It is they, whether willing or no, who must stand against the Ancients’ attempts to invade their realm. This is the story of their struggle. Ch. 1- The Chosen One (Persia, 26 B.C.)- Whilst on a military campaign, a Roman soldier named Pious Augustus discovers a ruin known as the Forbidden City, housing several eldritch artifacts tied to the Ancients. Upon touching one, he is transformed into an undead lich and his soul bound in service to the Lady of Insanity, Xel’lotath. Ch. 2- The Binding of the Corpse God (Cambodia, 1150 A.D.)- Discovering the dwelling temple of the god Mantorok, who has been preventing Xel’lotath’s encroachment upon Earth, Pious binds and mortally wounds him. Ellia, a runaway slave dancer seeking to explore the temple, is selected by Mantorok to protect his heart, which contains the last vestiges of the dead god’s power. Pious, deducing that Ellia is in cahoots with the Corpse God, attempts to kill her, but her true death is prevented by Mantorok’s heart, leaving her in an undead state. Ch. 3- Suspicions of Conspiracy (France, 814 A.D.)- Anthony, royal squire in service to the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne, discovers an assassination plot by Pious and his minions, as the emperor’s ascent threatens the machinations of the Xel’lotath and her followers. His attempts come to naught; Charlemagne is killed, and Anthony left in an undead, cursed state. Ch. 4- The Gift of Forever (Persia, 565 A.D.)- Nobleman and professional simp Karim, discovers the Forbidden City whilst on a journey to retrieve an artifact in order to win his waifu’s hand in marriage. Finding himself embroiled in something much greater than a mere adventure, Karim gives his life to become the immortal guardian of the Forbidden City, and the artifact it houses, the essence of Ulyaoth. Ch. 5- The Lurking Horror (Rhode Island, 1760 A.D.)- After the death of the Roivas family patriarch, Dr. Maximilian Roivas inherits the family mansion. His explorations reveal a horrifying secret: for generations, his family has been embroiled in a battle against the minions of the Ancients, with the Roivas estate situated over the ruins of an underground city, Ehn’gha, a nest of eldritch monsters known as Guardians. After foiling an attempt on his life by insidious monsters disguised as household servants, Maximilian descends into paranoia and murders his remaining staff, causing him to be committed to an asylum until his death. Ch. 6- A Journey into Darkness (Cambodia, 1983 A.D.)- After discovering a long-lost ruin using satellite technology, English archaeologist Dr. Edwin Lindsey travels to Cambodia with the aid of an eccentric collector named Paul Augustine. Upon arriving at the temple, Paul reveals himself as Pious Augustus and attempts to kill Lindsey, but the wily archaeologist, with a little aid from Mantorok, foils the lich and retrieves the dead god’s heart from Ellia, still keeping it safe in her undead body. Lindsey takes the heart to Edward Roivas for safekeeping. He succeeds in his battle against the Ancients and survives the ordeal. Ch. 7- EMPEROR! No, wait…HERESY! (France, 1485 A.D.)- Travelling amidst the perils of the Inquisition, a Franciscan monk named Paul Luther arrives at Oublié Cathedral on a pilgrimage. During his stay he is framed for murder and discovers that the cathedral is corrupted by servants of Xel’lotath. The supposed holy relic they house is in fact an unholy artifact of the Ancient, Chattur’gha. In his attempts to save himself and put an end to the order of false monks, he is killed by Pious and the Black Guardian who protects the artifact. Ch. 8- The Forbidden City (Persia, 1460 A.D.)- Whilst travelling abroad, Venetian architect Roberto Bianchi is captured by a local warlord and forced to plan the building of a great monument situated over the Forbidden City. During his survey, Roberto encounters the spirit of Karim still guarding Ulyaoth’s artifact. Relinquishing it to Roberto, the architect returns to his master to report the dangers lurking in the ruins. The warlord reveals himself to be Pious Augustus, and Roberto, along with thousands more, are sacrificed to build the monument known as the Pillar of Flesh. The monument is built as part of a grand ritual to assist Pious in summoning Xel’lotath into the mortal realm. Ch. 9- A War to End all Wars (France, 1916 A.D.)- Amidst the carnage of the First World War, English journalist Peter Jacob takes refuge at Oublié Cathedral, now converted into a field hospital. His investigations reveal that the war was triggered by the machinations of Pious and his servants in order to produce mass amounts of corpses to power their many rituals, as well as to feed the Black Guardian and keep it under their control. Fighting his way past the cathedral’s lurking monsters, Peter defeats the Black Guardian and retrieves the artifact it guarded, keeping it safe for decades until giving it to Edward Roivas for safekeeping. Like Lindsey, he succeeds in his battle against the Ancients and survives the ordeal. Ch. 10- A Legacy of Darkness (Rhode Island, 1952 A.D.)- In keeping with the family tradition, clinical psychologist Dr. Edward Roivas inherits the Roivas Mansion. Like his ancestors before him Edwards finds himself thrust into fighting the Ancients and their minions as they attack his residence from their base of operations: the city of Ehn’gha, located beneath the mansion. Continuing where Maximilian failed, Edward delves into the city proper and enacts a magical ritual to wipe out its monstrous residents. Years later, Pious sends a Guardian to assassinate a now elderly Edward as revenge for destroying Ehn’gha. Ch. 11- Ashes to Ashes (Persia, 1991 A.D)- Taking place on the heels of the First Gulf War, Canadian firefighter Michael Edwards stumbles upon the Forbidden City and the buried Pillar of Flesh whilst attempting to douse one of the many oil fields set ablaze amidst the fighting. The spirit of Roberto Bianchi entrusts Ulyaoth’s artifact to him, and after discovering the heinous purpose of the Forbidden City, built as a center of human sacrifice, Michael rigs a series of magically powered explosives and destroys the entire complex. With the final artifact in his possession, he travels to Rhode Island and entrusts it to Edward Roivas. While he is last seen alive, his ultimate fate is left ambiguous. Final Chapter- Eternal Darkness (Rhode Island, 2000 A.D.)- After the brutal murder of her grandfather Edward, medical student Alexandra Roivas travels to the Roivas family estate, where she uncovers the events of the past two millennia, chronicled inside the Tome of Eternal Darkness. Gathering the three artifacts entrusted to her grandfather, Alex descends into the ruins of Ehn’gha to put a stop to Pious Augustus as he completes the two-thousand year ritual to summon Xel’lotath to the mortal realm. With the three artifacts, Alex invokes her own ritual and summons an Ancient of her own: the Corporeal Corruptor, Chattur’gha, who battles and destroys Xel’lotath, while Alex slays Pious. With one final act of love the spirit of Edward reverses Alex’s desperate ritual and banishes the now-unopposed Chattur’gha back to his home realm. Despite rescuing humanity from the cusp of annihilation, Alex realizes she must remain vigilant, as the battle against the Ancients is a never-ending cycle.
