Hey Minty... I just want to say thanks for this video. I never realized how pivotal this movie was in my life as at the time my family couldn't afford video games. When my brother and I were surprised with a NES at Christmas along with a cartridge for Super Mario Bros 3 we spazzed out and thought it was a lottery win like no one had experienced before. Watching the Wizard was like me and my little brother dreaming of what we could get if we worked together. It may sound corny but I will never underestimate the value this movie put on our relationship. Thanks so much Minty. You rock!

Yeah, this really is a face-palm moment. However, in Minty's defence, if you've never actually been there and you're not from the USA, then it's easy enough to get confused. For example, if you do a google search for "Universal Studios Orlando", the OFFICIAL site shows as Universal Studios Orlando, however, the first sub-header is entitled Universal Studios Florida, which may make it seem as though it's an entirely separate park. To further complicate the matter, The park is not actually located in Orlando, or really even near it. The closest city, from my recollection, is Kissimmee, Florida. So it's easy to see how someone could make this mistake. That said, if you haven't been there, you should, as it's probably one of the best theme parks in the world, in my humble opinion.

I watched the Wizard in the early nineties on tv well after super mario 3 had been released and it still blew my little mind at the time. Seeing video games featured so prominently in a movie was awesome for my younger self, it all seemed so much larger than life at the time. I was lucky to see it at that age had I seen it in my teen years or later I would have been far too cynical to enjoy it. Watching it today would be hugely nostalgic but I still couldn't watch it with the same sense of wonder as I did back then. Fun fact: the actor who played Lucas in the wizard has been on the sex offender register for years. Let's just say he loves kids a little too much and is not allowed to live near school zones.

Lucas does NOT have a stereotypical mullet. He just has longer, fuller hair. A mullet is long hair in the back, short hair on the side and the top. That’s why they say “party in the back; business in the front”.

Ive said this for years and will continue to argue that this is a very deep and well made movie. Its not about video games and Jimmy doesnt have autism. Hes extremely traumatized by the death of his twin sister. Its a classic odyssey that shows a window into western america in the 80’s and the break down of a family from a horrible accident. The actors are top-notch and their character development is just enough save for the mother and step-dad. I have laughed and cried my eyes out from this movie. I like to think that at the end the family was able to heal and possibly all live together in happiness again.

@@scottmatthias5142 That's funny.. I was born in 80. I played all the classics, watched the cartoons, but for some reason I was never hyped for Mario 3 or The Wizard. Never seen the movie. Mario 2 was one of my favorites, and it wasn't even a Mario game originally.. lol

Sadly, there were a lot of NES errors in the movie. There is a KZbin video that points them out.

Even so, it was enjoyable. They were only able to consult one Nintendo of America employee for information on the games. Ben Cheese, whom was credited in the movie as a game consultant, and he was also a localizer for games like the original StarFox.
