When they started, they didn't realize that they had to tune their instruments to each other, so they were playing the same D, for example. Mike was confused as to why they sounded like crap, and then someone told them what was up! It's literally amazing what they became.

I never knew that. I saw/met Joe Baiza on a Missingmen tour. He was a really nice guy and slayed the guitar. I would have figured Pettibone.
@andrewpearson19037 жыл бұрын
Pettibon would have taken yet another juvenile stab at "the underbelly of suburban America" and turned the Boon-Watt food fight concept in some kind of gang war involving swung chains, sharpened sticks and fragile masculinity. Also there would be dicks. Dicks galore. Why the Minutemen, a party band with compassionate populist hearts, ever let him draw their album covers is a mystery to me.

DNA and the Minutemen are 2 of the greatest bands af all time, and one of the things that makes them so is their absolutely unique natures, that neither ever sounded like anyone but themselves. That both were part of pretty incestuous scenes carrying with them their own sometimes rigid orthodoxies, while remaining impossible to mistake, says it all.
