Mipha’s Grace or Vow of Sidon - Which Ability is Better?

In Breath of the Wild we were introduced to Champions Abilities. These abilities were replaced by the Sage abilities in Tears of the Kingdom.
We’re looking at the Hero’s from Zora’s Domain in this short - The Zora Champion Mipha, and her younger brother and future King of Zora’s Domain, Sidon.
Which ability was best? I have my opinion, but what do you think?

It depends on what you value more. Besides what you already showed here, I personally like the variety Sidon brings. - splashing enemies for bigger shock effects - easy self splashing to make all zora weapons 2x damage (or cool off) - bonus: I randomly found spinning a two handed claymore/weapon while in Sidon’s bubble doesn’t cancel the bubble unless you release the charge (or the effect times out). The spin can be stopped with b like normal too. This was more useful when against a close enemy and one far away (to block any projectile). It’s niche but I’ve never seen anyone talk about it. Mipha healing is good too, it’s just Sidon is more fun for me.

You also dont have to chase an avatar around in one of the most frustrating aspects of tears of the kingdom compared to breath of the wild. The champion abilities were so much easier to use, only one comparable is Tulin

Tulin's drawback is being too easy to accidentally use if you're collecting a lot of things at once and blowing the loot off a cliff or something

I feel if they gave each of them an option to use their ability in their specific situations it would make using them a bit less of a hassle. Theres tulin gust in the air and yunobos attack while in a moving vehicle, but nothing for sidon or riju? We couldve had the option to enable rijus lightning when we pull back an arrow, or the option to enable sidons shield say, when you crouch (idk).

TOTK made some big qol changes to the BOTW formula such as being able to drop weapons from the quick select menu, and being able to drop stuff once you open a chest instead of needing for the whole animation to finish if you don't have space, but fuse makes scrolling through the quick menu a nightmare and it's insane that there's still no favorites list. You still need to scroll a bunch to find the right gear. Champion abilities were seamless, they were excellently integrated into your base and passive actions. Sage abilities are horrible to me because you often press on the wrong one while chasing them around, they get in the way often too. This feels like such a bafflingly bad decision, they should have just integrated the abilities seamlessly like BOTW.

Bcuz otherwise it would be a cheap copy with a lil story change new abilities means new options for the 200 or so temples the game has and bro ascend is overpowered as shit if you wanna reach high places and building tanks and fighter jets is a lot more fun than pausing things and hittin them infinite bombs was nice though😂😂

The ability’s being worse is probably because otherwise the game would break cause urbosas grace could kill any boss in 3 hits apart from lynels and the blights also having revalis gale is not useful compared to the amount of gliding you have to do urbosa had to get nerfed and daruks was replaced with a horrendous knock off in sidon

Nerfing them is fine but why make them unusable ? You have to run to them and by the time you do so, you would have achieved more by just ignoring them, they make you fall off your vehicles, they physically restrain your ground movement by just being there, tulin makes pocket rockets fail while gliding, their attacks do nearly no dmg and ungroup the enemies, extending fights so you're better off desactivating them permanently, which is boring

sidon’s avatar ability is good for two things 1. staying cool in the desert 2. activating the special ability of zora weapons (doubling atk power by getting them wet) and literally nothing else. i miss mipha man 😫

You're also immune to burning, can safely use bombs in burning zones and electric arrows/attacks automatically trigger the dome. Also Sidon's atk part of the bubble deals the same damage as the weapon itself (including buffs like Mighty food).

The thing is, I can use all the other vows decently, but the trouble is that I cannot find any real use for Sidon's Vow, which is horrible because he is one of my favorite characters. They really did Sidon nasty when all the other abilities, while not as useful as their Champion counterparts, I still use a good amount. Maybe not in combat, but definitely in the iverpwrld and exploration

Sidon's ability protects you from burning areas for 30 seconds. Ability has 10 second cooldown, which effectively makes it infinite. Also being wet activates another awesome effects, double damage for Zora weapons, which makes them one of the best weapons in the game. The only 1 weapon that can surpass a wet Zora weapon is Scimitar of the Seven, which has great durability and superior damage. Other gerudo weapons dish out high damage but break in a few hits, even pristine ones. It's true you can achieve the same effect with a strategic splashfruit, but you gotta keep a healthy number of them

The underrated use for Sidon's ability is Zora weapons. They all come with an ability that doubles their attack power when you're wet. Any time you use the Vow of Sidon, you'll be wet for a little bit (longer than the ability cooldown). Combo that with a really good material fusion, and you're cooking with gas. Hope this helps you enjoy Sidon's contribution a bit more!

I wish the abilities worked like tulins, where yoy could quick activate them in certain situations. Sidon for when youre shielding (like daruk!) Riju for when youre firing a bow. Yunobo has a quick activate for moving vehicles, but its not that useful so having that one for when youre targetting an enemy would be great! Mineru is pretty much garbage unless youre mining (and yunobo is better for that) but she works great as just a passive attacker like the reat of the sages

I’ve found that mineru is useful for gleeoks. After it’s stunned and you hit it a bunch, it starts to flap its wings to get back up in the sky. Link will ragdoll even if he is on a wall or something. Mineru will just get pushed back a little though. You can get into mineru after you attack then jump out for the bullet time from mineru’s height. That’s sadly about all that mineru is useful for

Yes but Sidon makes you wet for longer I think it’s 20 or thirty seconds for splash fruit and about 40 for Sidon I think

I mean, it triggers the Zora Weapon ability of doubling damage (including the fuse material damage) when wet. And you stay wet longer than the cooldown is. So you can effectively have permanent double damage on Zora weapons, which can be very strong, for example with a silver lynel horn. But there are so many ways to deal very high damage, so it's not really worth it IMO

Sidon also activates the water warrior effect on Zora weapons. With the right combo you can do over 100 damage per hit. Still not better but it helps

Mipha’s grace hands down. Sidon runs around doing barely anything. Meanwhile Mipha resurrects me if I accidentally get myself killed. Way more useful

I agree that Miphas Grace is better, by a long shot, but you forgot to mention how well Zora Weapons go with Vow of Sidon. Add a Lynel or silver moblin horn to a Zora spear, activate Vow of Sidon, and that weapon is going to do tons of damage. Sure there ARE better options, but for mid - late game, it worked wonders for me.

Sidon's protection also offers elemental protection in hot or burning areas, activates Zora weapons

100% agree. Sidon helps in battle and the water warrior perk is nice IF you’re using Zora weapons. The recharge rate is cool too but yeah Mipha’s Grace wins outright. Can’t help but appreciate a full health bar when you got distracted in battle and forgot to heal and would’ve died without her help. Side note- Revali’s Gale trumps Tulin’s Gust 200%. A mid range launch forward is cool but that updraft on command was so helpful.

Honestly, the abilities being worse in TOTK would be fine if they were just easier to use because the trade off is they fight alongside you without you having to do a dang thing, which is pretty powerful in it of itself. It’s just annoying to have to run up to them and half the time they run away from you making using their abilities frustrating

The thing about the champion abilities is they feel like extensions of what the player was already doing. You don’t change your play style when you get a champion ability, your play style just becomes easier. Meanwhile the only sage ability that feels like that is Tulin’s, everyone else’s abilities are completely useless unless you change the way you play the game, or under very specific circumstances

Why does no one mention that the water attack does the same damage as your weapon without using durability? It's so satisfying to be facing a bunch of enemies, only to pull out your best claymore and send a huge wave of death through your enemies.

The more I play TOTK the more I find Sidon more useful. I’m doing a permadeath run and having that bubble can be very useful, and combining the water shield with the lightscale trident and a silver lynel saber horn deals insane damage. Regardless, I wish it was easier to access, such as instant activation option when opening shield

Tbh tears feels like and plays exactly like an expansion pack to BOTW. I wish that they would have just made it into a DLC where you would have to earn back all that you lost while having a master mode that increases difficulty but gives the champion abilities in tears off the jump.

I personally think Mipha's Grace is generally useful. There's never a time where a full recharge from death and bonus hearts won't be useful. Vow of Sidon has more niche uses, but it excels at those uses. For example, it can be used to power up Zora weapons, and can also be used in hot environments if you don't have the resources to cool yourself down. Personally I think if we're talking sage abilities, I mostly keep Riju switched on and only toggle the others if I need them.

Zora weapons double in power for a while after using vow of sidon, which gets pretty broken with a good fuse. But chasing sidon down is so annoying that I like mipha’s grace more anyways.

This is probably the toughest choice the first ability you get in either game and that does alot. Wifes grace is a better fairy on a timer but brother gives you a sheild/ranged attack and a body on the battlefield which the first one is super important but dimishes in value.

One other trick about Sidon's Vow is that it makes link wet, meaning you can trigger the zora weapons unique trait of increased damage while wet whenever you want or travel the desert safely

I agree, but, late game I might as well just have fairy's, so somehow Vow of Sidon ends up being more useful... Mipha's grace exists so I can choose to die instead of heal or use fairy's. It's weird, but at the same time, I rarely use sage abilities that don't help with movement I never use Riju's that's for sure

for me it's the vow of Sidon because it was hard to die in BOTW as in a battle, I had so much food and if I'm falling in a ragdoll state, just use teleportation.

Since I apparently have an issue with not eating enough and estimating my falling distance, Mipha's grace is better. I think all the abilities in ToTK would be SO much better if you could activate it right away like in BOTW. I think Riju's ability is awesome, but what's the point if Im chasing her down while getting attacked by enemies? Sometimes I die just trying to activate an ability 😅

Totk already has a means of recharging hearts without sages abilities called fairies. They still exist in the game abs like any other Zelda game save you from dying. Me personally I keep a handful on me at all times just in case. Botw sage ability is essentially nullified with fairies having 0 cool down so long as you still have fairies on your inventory active who thinks sidon ability is worse is insane this coming from a guy who barely uses sidon in totk but I'll still take him over the other

havent actually played botw but after playing totk imo the abilities look more fun to use in botw. building stuff can be prettt fun but thats the only thing that makes it stand out to me. also side note... why didnt they let us tame satori? in botw you get him AND a motorcycle. horses become practically irrelevant for most of the game

Grace hands down, I can’t even use Sidon’s vow in the very boss fight it is meant to be used for and 90% of the time even if you want to use it as a shield you end up flubbing it and attack too early so it takes too long to get another use out of it.
