@The eel I blame the regulatory agency. Industries/corporations are supposed to be trying to make profits, that is what they are there for. Regulatory agencies are there to protect consumers, not thumb the scale for certain corporations because of conflicts of interest. How can you blame the for-profit company over the agency that is supposed to be regulating the industry? That is like blaming a child for being a little shit head in the supermarket, rather than blaming the parents who let them, or even encourage them to keep being shit heads.

Cool video, I always have fun with miracle berries, I have a tree, and can tell you that fresh berries are a lot more potent, and the berries taste pretty good on their own, I have to pick some and hide them before my daughters gets them all. We do not swallow the seeds, or chew them. you just want to suck/eat the pulp off the seed. ok here is my experience with the miracle berries. They block bitterness, and sour, and if there is some acid in whatever your eating, it will make it taste sweet. what it will not do, is make something like coffee taste sweet, it wont make your plain cornflakes taste sweet or an herbal tea. acid sour fruits like lemon work real well, gotta remember that when you are eating a lemon its still a very strong fruit, make some lemonade without sugar, and try it with the berries. Lemons actually have a lot of "Brix" (sugars), but the sour part , over powers it, by blocking the sour, presto sweet lemons. Beer will also taste really different.

3:00 That's actually not THAT shady, aspartame was a well defined substance, a peptide of 2 molecules of aspartic acid, 1 phenylanine (both aminoacids) molecule with a methyl ester group, they knew how it would break down in the body, they knew the product of it's break down was safe in the quantities relevant. On the other hand, consider that EVERYTHING is "a chemical", and that the chemical responsible for the effect you mention sounds like it wasn't well researched at all, not even mentioning that said chemical wouldn't be in an isolated form, so that adds up quite a bit of unknown chemicals that the FDA had to aprove. I'm not claming to know how much was known about the fruit at the time, I'm not claiming there wasn't any shadiness involved, just that it isn't obvious enough that further investigation wasn't warranted to claim it was a "shady" affair.

Gonzalo Ayala Ibarre Natural berry. The key here is for a natural food of the earth used for natural healing. Remember Hippocrates, the father of medicine: "Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food." Whole and natural. Scientific chemical extraction and concoctions are not necessarily the best or healthiest approach to healing. Many supposed scientific studies were slanted and falsified or discarded results when the results of natural foods showed their wonderful healing benefits. The greed, corruption, and bottom line dollar-driven system is a very unhealthy one for humans.

@@gonzaloayalaibarre that precedent has been set many times, see Watergate and many others. It doesn't seem to affect bitterness in the same way it does sourness. I tried a bunch of different things including beer, which someone suggested online, and it tasted just about exactly the same as it normally does. I should have tried dark chocolate, since that's a thing I normally find to be a bit too bitter.

Synsepalum dulcificum is described as a berry, but reading this made me aware that there are at least two different fruits that do the same thing. I wonder what would happen if you mix the two together. maybe no more sour taste will be perceived... @MrHarmfulHarry5 жыл бұрын
You can eat the tamarillo skin, it just taste bitter. So it would have been good for the video. Unless there is some variety in malay that is unknown to me. Synsepalum Dulcificum, otherwise known as the Miracle Berry, is related, although somewhat distantly to the mama sapote and sopadilla. As you've said, it has the protein that coats your tongue and causes you to not taste bitter nor sour as much. Aspartame is an analog of an amino acid called phenylalanine. It's used in such minute quantities that it's not really relevant to our health in a can of diet soda, same can be said for sucralose. It's only really bad for phenylketonurics, people who can't have phenylalanine. There has been little evidence that would conclude many adverse effects like cancer. Although it can make you crave sweets and does nothing for blood glucose tolerance. However, if it's between that and high fructose corn syrup, I would take aspartame all day, though I prefer erythritol, allulose, monk fruit or stevia. Hell, even straight glucose is better for you than fructose or aspartame. Medicine and nutrition ain't an exact science, however, and things can change. Even science isn't an exact science, horseshoe crabs recently got reclassified as arachnids, so that's pretty neat.
@WeirdExplorer5 жыл бұрын
I've had varieties with skin that is much more palatable than this one. This was painfully bitter. I can't drink regular coke anymore, way too sweet and heavy. Diet coke is far lighter tasting, so i'll occasionally have that.

I actually tested vinegar after I chew miracle berry pills. It was the strangest taste experience I had in a while. It wasn't too bad, but the aftertaste was... peculiar.

yeah for us it didn't work so well, I've tried with balsamic before and it tasted like juice

Miracle berry + kaffir lime? Or some other very astringent citrus?

I bought some miracle berry pills once that did the same thing. To test it out I ate grapefruit, lime/lemon and it worked.

I just remember when I was getting hot chemo, my mouth tasted like dirty change. Would have been ecstatic to know about this
