The funny thing is, I saw this live, as a 13 yr old, in Perth. It was a crazy match. But this is the first time I've seen it in colour. Also evidence of how crazy Dennis Lillee was. And how terrifying Jeff Thomson was. And both at the WACA when it was the best pitch in the world.

Benaud and Chappelli commenting so I guess it's 9.

@@chrisrussell5690 Channel Nine didn't start televising cricket until, 77/78, at which time it was Packer's rebel circus. This was on ABC, as were all official cricket games until the reconciliation in 79/80.

@@Biggus63 I would've thought so but they are 9 commentators and the sponsors name is mentioned which the ABC wouldn't mention now, let alone then.

@@chrisrussell5690 I watched it live on the telly at the time and I'm pretty sure (not 100%, it was a long time ago) that it was the ABC. I don't remember Channel Nine doing cricket before the whole World Series Cricket thing. That was what set the whole affair off, Kerry Packer wanted the cricket, offered to double what the ABC was paying and the ACB wouldn't even consider it. I don't think Richie Benaud went to Channel Nine until then, at which time Ian Chappell came out of retirement at the insistence of Packer to lead the Aussie team. The other commentators were ABC regulars. This is just before Jeff Thomson did his shoulder in the first test Vs Pakistan, colliding with Alan Turner trying to take a miscued hook off Zaheer Abbas, just twelve days later. He would never be quite the same again. Was a crazy game, I was just thirteen.
