Vincent Torrijos I think the merciful ending is a bit less dramatic and kinda anticlimactic
@shinyelf4 жыл бұрын
@@seanwallcroft6272 I disagree, it shows the power he derives from abandoning the honor code of the samurai. His uncle would undoubtedly have killed him, because that is what he is compelled to do by his code, but Jin has freed himself from those bindings, Jin is free to spare a man that is compelled to kill him. In the theme of the game honour compels loss and dishonour prevents it. Jin becomes stronger because he refuses to adhere to the code, a code that commands him to kill a man he cares deeply about, it is the dishonourable act that preserves the life of a man that adheres to honour. A delightful contrast and a fitting end to the story of Jin.
@seanwallcroft62724 жыл бұрын
shinyelf it’s a great take on it. However, I still feel like the other ending shows that Jin still respects the code despite breaking it for the greater good of Tsushima by honoring Shimura with a proper death. Letting him live would be a hard hit for Shimura’s credibility as the Jito and a samurai since he failed to grant the Shogun’s will (which would probably result in his death anyway). I believe giving him an honorable death is showing respect and sympathy to him in the end

Honor truly does die in this game, at the start you have your samurai tactics and you fight with honor but eventually......Honor starts too fade away, you kill more and more from the shadows, you realize how much easier it is this way, why fight with a blade? When you have kunai and bombs? Arrows and poison? You then realize, honor has indeed died. Brutes will fight themselves and then choke on the bits of there own organs and blood. Flesh will burn, bombs will blow away the rest, any left will be fallen by arrows. You are a Ghost, not a Samurai, and a Ghost has no need for a katana. Sakai Jin had obtained the greatest kind of honor( at least in Vietnamese tradition). He won a whole war, saved his people from annialation by teaching them to unite and fight back the foreign babarian invader. That was the greatest good and beyond the meaning of honor in western understanding.
@connorhilchie27793 жыл бұрын
Which is what made the ending all the more depressing. He won the war and saved his people, but now he'll be hunted for the rest of his life, and as far as we know the only one who stuck with him is Yuna and maybe Norio. Sensei can't help him since he's technically still samurai. Lady Masako might, but we're not sure what happened to her after the war was over, and while I do think Norio would help Jin when and where he could, it would have to be done in secret if he doesn't want trouble to come to Ceder Temple
@ladywaffle22103 жыл бұрын
@@connorhilchie2779 Yuna, I'd be willing to bet, helps him. Not a chance she doesn't. Norio is probably undergoing some form of penance for his rage. Lady Makaso isn't a conventional samurai, so she might argue for forgiveness. Kenji probably also helps Jin, not to mention *every single peasant on the island.* The samurai, as if they didn't already have problems trying to find the Ghost, have to deal with a population that does not want the Ghost to be found.
@sethgilcrist80883 жыл бұрын
Coughs in western honor. To call the mongol's barbarians is to do a disservice to a proud warrior race. Also have you read Western history. Honor kinda was a thing. And there were people that discarded there honor to fight for the greater good. There is no honor in assassination, poisoning, or biological warfare. Some times all you have it's fear and the west does fear better then anyone

Will you have something prepared for your official 10th KZbin anniversary, Gav? From Gordon Freeman song to the GoT you've really made a change for most of us during these years. Needless to say, I'm very glad to have met your artwork and made it as a part of my life.

I'll admit that I've never commented on one of your videos despite following your channel for awile. I wanted to take this time to thank you so much for all the hard work you do. This particular video came out after I had a bad day and it really helped cheer me up. Thanks again, and keep up the amazing work!

I have been listening to this song on loop for DAYS. Great work, I love it. I hope this doesn't come across as insulting, but I would love to hear this song with Roy Khan on vocals. It's right in the sweet spot of his range, and I think it would be amazing.

THAT VOCAL TRAINING! Wow, it's immediately apparent how much it's boosted your skill. As the years go on, the bar keeps being raised. I'm SO looking forward to what you come up with in the future.

Having played through the game myself and experienced the beauty that is Jin and Yuna's friendship/relationship, I can't thank you enough for including the scene from the end where they run to each other and hug on the shore. This game was made beautiful by all of its main characters, not just Jin. The others made 'the Ghost' what it was alongside him, through help and providing Jin with a view into their own lives. To me, that's also part of why this game is freaking amazing. So here's to all of them. Ishikawa sensei, Lady Masako, Norio, Ryuzo, Taka, Kenji, Lord Shimura, Yuna and at the centre of it all, Jin.

I've had heard someone say the "secondary missions" were forgettable. But that's wrong. At least, your allies' tales. How they develop with every "mission" it isn't forgettable at all. On the contrary, the missions allow you to know more about your allies as people (or their characters) it is a wonderful game. The first one that encouraged me with its writing to play something else than the main story for the first playthrough!
@darklord8843 жыл бұрын
@@carlosdasilva2409 It wasn't the first to me, I played a handful of games that encouraged me to play all side missions with how great they were (the Yakuza games being a most recent example) but the way this game makes every single side quest special by connecting it not just to Jin's quest for freeing the island but also to his allies' personal stories and developing arcs, that just makes it all so great. The way you learn about Ishikawa sensei's personality when hunting his protege, the way you keep Lady Masako from becoming an insane murderer by refusing to let her indulge fully in her bloodlust on her quest for vengeance, your quest to essentially train Norio up from being a mild-mannered monk to a true hero, you helping Yuna to escape the island but in the end seeing her stay and fight with/for you and heck, even seeing Kenji turn from a cowardly idiot to this sort of bumbling hero, it's all so wonderful in the end.

@@darklord884 I cannot agree more, even if I wanted to. It is an amazing story that doesn't just shows us a protagonist and that's all. It shows us how Jin's friends advance as people. Even the little details and implied backstories. For example, Jin's nanny (forgot her name, sorry :'( ) and her feelings for Kazumasa, Jin's dad. Was such a touching little detail. The secondary missions where Jin gives hope to the people by fighting off the Mongols, fighting bandits, or locating other people (and fighting). Despite his methods not being "honorable" the way he teaches people to resist and fight back, while standing together is brilliant. A game with such a compelling storytelling surely makes one come back to it for more.

@@carlosdasilva2409 Wholeheartedly agree with you on that. I think her name is Yoriko. Not sure though, sadly. The way that subplot is delivered is also quite cute and sad. And quite so. Even very minor ones like the traitorous farmers or the guy who spread the legend of a forest being hunted by the ghost of dead samurai (a legend Jin can contribute to, funnily enough) they all feel human even if their stories are short and not too deep.

I like to imagine that the two motifs, seen back to back in the intro, representing the internal clash between honor and not-honor. Or generally the heavier sections vs the more chill ones. Then the synthesis of those two being seen in later sections like 3:22 and 4:35
