The Mirage was the site of my bachelor party nearly 25 years ago. They gave us an upgrade to a big suite without even asking. (Didn't know I could back then...) I'm sad to see it go, but the constant change of Las Vegas is one of the things I love about it. If I was in charge of MGM, I'd rebrand the Mandalay Bay as "The Mirage" and rebuild the volcano in the pool area somewhere.

First sports gambling, first live blackjack, first March Madness, so many firsts that I had there. Seems like the Mirage raised my Vegas life! I will never forget how we would run across the street, downing a dollar beer and cheap hot dog at the Royale and running back to the Mirage to gamble.

Great history information. Thank you for mentioning Siegfried and Roy. I don't think the young uns even know who they are. In the 90's Siegfried and Roy and their white tigers were Las Vegas. Everyone wanted to see them. My memory of The Mirage is when it opened. We hadn't seen anything like it. It was so big. I'll say goodbye on June 26.

Starting in 1990, they headlined a show at The Mirage casino resort. Their performing career came to an end in 2003 when Horn was critically injured by a tiger during a performance.

Two years ago....I went there to toast my mom one last time before it was turned into a Hardrock. We (my wife and I) are coming back to Vegas this August and thought we'd get one more toast in but it wasn't in the cards.

Great video and just subbed! Been to the Mirage many times over the years, the first time being 2006. We just love the location on the strip, the vanilla-tropical scent when entering and the casual laid back atmosphere there (but it still comes off classy in a way). It just feels like "coming home" at night in a way after cruising up and down the strip. The pool is fantastic as well and there are always nice spots in the shade to sit, chill, and read if that's your thing. Will really, really miss this place in its current form. Anyways, we will be there one final time in 2 weeks for 5 days. We had booked the trip some time ago now, and we are thankful we get one final time there while it's still open. I am also going to take our boy to the Beatles show while there. My wife and I saw it some years ago, but the kids weren't with us at the time. We will toast the Mirage in person soon! Not sure if we will stay at Hard Rock, but will definitely walk though after it opens. I suspect it will probably an insane transformation after being closed and almost 3 years in the making. I've always liked the mirage, but never stayed there. We got a thing in the mail for 3 free nights before it closes, I was all excited to go, until my friend saw a picture of checking and the wait in line was two and a half hours long. I guess a lot of people had the same idea 😮

When we were there last month we stopped in to take a look and use the restroom… while I was sitting out on the bench waiting for him I sat right next to a $5,000 bill wrap. I picked it up and brought it home with us! We wanted to get chips or play a slot and get a voucher but we said we’ll do that when we come back so we can stay longer before it changes over… so much for that plan!

The Castaways on the strip did not have a hotel tower. The demolition video that you included was showing the Castaways on Boulder Highway (originally the Showboat). It can be confusing, for sure.

I did the dolphin trainer for a day attraction while I stayed there. Spent the whole day with the dolphins. Swimming with them. Feeding them. Playing with them. It was pretty cool even though I'm not a big fan of captive animals. I was just in Vegas less than a month ago and kicking myself now that I never made it there for 1 last time.

If only I were rich in financial freedom. I would buy places such as this and create housing for the homeless. A massive cafeteria with home cooked meals. Though it’s made purpose is to eliminate homeless people living on the streets or in storm runoff canals or in the heat of the desert. Years ago I was homeless and I was saved. Years later God put me in the kitchen of a halfway house for excons and we fed the homeless and the hungered masses. The guys the residents had chores assignments and they loved working with me in the kitchens. We did the bell ringing at Christmas time. We volunteered the residents to serve the community by farming, construction, technology. Yes they served time in prison but still have a debt to pay for society. That’s how I would operate a major housing program for the homeless

For my 50th birthday, a friend & I drove to Vegas (an easy 4-hr. drive from CA) where I was treated to Siegfried & Roy's show. What a beautiful night it was! I'm now 77 yrs. old & can't believe it was 27 yrs. ago we enjoyed a unique magical performance....😢

I live in Baltimore MD, I’ve never been to Las Vegas and I’ve never gambled, but I have always been fascinated with Vegas history, local lore, the glamour and super unique residents and flavor of the city and I honestly, can seriously watch you and Dave’s videos all day, I LOVE this channel! Best “for the locals/townies” tours and vibes while making the mega tourist stuff look just as cool as the cheap punk dive with tacos down the street that’s off the beaten path! The Mirage was the very first hotel I stayed at in Las Vegas; I was 3 months pregnant and ‘crashed’ my Mom and sister’s vacation; I loved, loved the pool area (virgin daiquiri; delicious!); I have also stayed at least 3 more times; saw Love (amazing!) and enjoyed the fabulous volcano; I’ll be in Vegas in September and am truly sad I will not have the chance to say a formal goodbye. I will miss the Mirage. It’s my favorite hotel to stay in Las Vegas! I was there for the last time in August of 2022, and I enjoyed my visit so much. I LOVE Las Vegas so much. My late husband and myself used to go out there twice a year, every year…….starting in 1984. He passed away in 2017, and I hadn’t been back since before then. I decided I would go by myself in August of 2022, so I did!! We were lucky enough to see Siegfried and Roy’s show once. I’m so glad I filmed the volcano while I as there. I just felt it was going to be the last time I would ever see it. I’m really sad about this. I’m really gonna miss the Mirage. 😢😢😢😢

I stayed in The Mirage September 2022. Really loved it. I remember I August 1988 on my 1st visit from UK ro Las Vegas aged 11 saw the construction of the hotel. Came back again in 1991 saw the hotel active 1st time. Visited in 1988, 1991, 1996, 2012, 2019 and 2022. Also saw LOVE show

Sorry to see it go. Now Hard Rock is going to put up their Gaudy Guitar right on the street blocking the whole view up and down the strip. What a Joke! I used to vacay in LV 2x a year for 10 yrs till I quit. I just tired of the almost all day air travel ordeal from back east here. I can drive to Atlantic City in 3hrs flat in my own comfort. I stayed there many times in almost every casino before I finally went to see Vegas. AC ain't LV but it'll do.

As always, you keep us up to date on the happenings on the Las Vegas strip! This was wonderfully done. Makes me sad, for the Mirage has been one of my fav casinos and hotels to stay & play at over the years. My wife and I was there a few years ago when the strip experienced an earthquake, twice! So sad. The first time I ever to Vegas for my husband’s union convention back in 2000. I’ve never been anywhere and I didn’t wanna go. I almost backed out of the last minute, but my husband made me go after I got to Vegas. I didn’t want to go home lol I was amazed. Me being a country bumpkin from the sticks lol. So after that, we went every year to Vegas sometimes twice a year until Covid hit and then it was five years since we’ve been there, but we went in April and I forgot how much fun Vegas was. So it was my tradition to watch Vegas vacation before we went to Vegas. So going to miss that place 😢

Never stayed at the Mirage but did visit the tiger enclosure and The Secret Garden of Siegfried & Roy including the dolphin habitat. It was a beautiful hotel. Going to miss it. Thanks for the history and memories. Curious why there is a picture of Mandalay Bay at 9:36. Guessing because you were mentioning the gold windows of Mirage which Mandalay Bay has as well. Also, I've listened a few times but it sounds like Tanya is saying Ray Horn, not Roy Horn, at 11:02. Do I need to get my hearing checked? At my age, probably.😂

I was just in Vegas this past Memorial Day weekend. Saw “Love” for the last time from the front row and it didn’t disappoint. It was also the first casino to offer me a complete comped weekend just after the COVID restriction lifts (still had to wear a mask inside). It will be missed, but as you said “Vegas is forever changing”. Hopefully, the HR will live up to the hype, but that is to be seen.

MGM cannot operate the Mirage, which is north of Caesars Palace. It only operates resorts south of Flamingo Road, the northernmost MGM resort in Las Vegas is the Bellagio. MGM has control of the Mirage name and it was licensed to Hard Rock for 3 years
