2 dayer on the miragesportfishing.com where we absolutely hammer the California Halibut in the area around santa cruz island. Launched out of Channel Island Sportfishing and went to one of the closest islands. 35 White Seabass and 43 Halibut for 17 anglers.

Thanks Rudy for the comments. I actually did catch jackpot on the second day @ 12:54. Captain says "the biggest one!" It weighed in at 42lbs. It takes time to edit the video, but i enjoy it, so its not really work for me. I have 2 versions of each video, one with music and one with out. I personally like the one with music. Although i can see why i get more views on my non-music ones. People like to hear whats going on and what people are saying. ENJOY!! CANT WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR!

Early July trips can be a hit or miss. Usually your hoping for bluefin or albacore. Usually the season for tuna starts on July 4th and usually its albacore/bluefin showing up. I usually like to wait till August to really start tuna fishing. All I can really say is good luck. Its hard to say...sometimes they show in July and sometimes they don't. Last few years they havent been around in early-mid july. The yellowtail and white sea bass are around.. good luck either way.

I must say this is one of the Best So-Cal fishing trips I've seen, great job people. If I get a chance to fish So-Cal for sure it's gonna be on the Mirage , you guys know how to part'ay ( True way to Party on a Party Boat ) . 06:48 I like how this guy brings his in , nice and slow old school playa and it a nice one. 07:45 and another one sweet! He was the pot winner ,right?

I think the MXL Raptor and the 30a are both excellent reels.Unless you run into 100lb bluefin(unlikely), both those setups should be fine.Only downside for just having 2 reels is your stuck with 2 line classes. At least you have 2 awesome reels. On a 3-4day i usually take like 4-5 setups.. 20/25/30/40/40.The 2nd 40lb setup is not necessary on a 4 Day. As long as you have short top shots of flouro, you can change out the setups to whatever line is working best. Good luck. Im on an Indy 7dayer

AAAhhhh man !!! It must have took you some time in editing to get this much footage for me to pick the one of the jackpot winner . That means you put a lot of time on the camera while fishing, wish you got the J-pot for the day it would have been sweet. bx500 is an awesome reel. No matter what though, i would recommend 2 speed reel. 6 to1 ratio is pretty tough to reel in fish in general. The raptor i believe only comes in 2 speed. The accurates in general are finely tuned reels and with any precision equipment, generally requires more maintenance than say avet & shimanos from my experience. If i were to buy anything new today, it would be avets(price) and shimano(just cool)

Well I'll assume your asking the line strength, but maybe you're asking me if its mono or flouro. I use KUREHA Seaguar flourocarbon. I use around a 32lb strength flouro. I don't use much mono anymore.

I hope so. Just so you know, this year the water seems warmer earlier and the exotic fish seem to be coming earlier. There's no guarantee, but overall things are looking good. Hopefully you see tuna being caught in JUNE near San Diego...

Don't worry. Go the the indepence sportfishing website and look at their reports from the previous years. Look for all the trips in your time range and you'll see what they caught. You WILL CATCH FISH.

+Rob's Fishing Channel no it isn't ...but it does have protected status for a number of reasons...it's a really big fish long before it becomes sexually mature so in years past it was unintentionally over fished...second even when released if caught in water more then 100 feet deep it tends to have it's swim bladder over inflate from the pressure reduction which can kill it....some day you may get to fish for them again and maybe keep one ...it has made a really good comeback from 35 years of being protected.
