It is the truth. Those kids are in virtual slavery. No kid should have to grow up washing their mother's body and wiping her arse just because she eats too much. "Why should I get up and get my own glass of water?" So sad.

I’d be drinking if I had the life her daughters have. I helped with my father at the end and I didn’t mind changing diapers and bathing because he had actually been a father! She took and took from her kids their entire life. In families you are all supposed to give to each other without asking. The love and joy you give is a blessing to yourself as well. It allows you to always feel loved and happy to give.

@daisychain4112

It is not borderline!!! It is a horrendous form of the the worst type of child abuse & neglect! That self centred, selfish woman has provided her children with a dysfunctional & problematic childhood that gaurantees they will become troubled adults dealiing with mental health issues or PTSD!!! She has robbed her children of the basic right to be children! Depriving them of a maternal bond that provides them with care, nurturing, support, safety, guidance & love!!! She will not be able to physically interact with her children both in the home or outdoors as well as being unable to endure they have a home environment where as children they can learn essential growing & life skills set by her example! They will have limited understanding and definate confusion of family roles, relationships and responsibilities as they have been forced into taking on the parenting role in the home but being treated as children outside the home! They will no doubt have issues relating to thier social peers (as I doubt they are able to invite friends to their home or even visit friends homes after school due to thier mothers immobility/disability & care needs! I would imagine they experience stress, anxiety or depression worrying about thier mothers health & they probably often carry guilt around with them caused through feelings of embarrassment of thier mothers situation or jealousy of peers with positive parental relationships (maybe even resentment towards thier mother at times) It is also highly probable that they too will develop a chaotic & dysfunctional relationship with food & an eating disorder (which could go either way ie:-starving or binge eating for reward or punishment!) or even another addiiction later on in life as a coping mechanism! I also question how they cope within the education system because as young carers they will have to fit homework in around thier chores & no doubt when thier mother is unwell it would mean missing school to care for her! I doubt they feel as loved as they should either as they exist in the home as primary carergivers/caretakers first & childre second! They would have to carry out basic health care skills as they nurse and tend to thier mothers needs daily which will include washing & dressing her & shopping & cooking for her as well as running any errands required such as food shopping & paying bills etc. They will also be doing thier own cooking & laundry & all general house & garden upkeep & care! I just hope the oldest daughter who is pregnant has a great mother in law who can guide & support her through her pregnancy, child birth & into motherhood as unfortunately her own mother failed to do so!

Joel Henare I agree with you. I used to be fat and I literally didn't care if I died; I ate lots of junk food and never exercised. I did get fat. But my body never got to be anywhere near her size (even though my short height put me just over the BMI edge into "obese"). I'm at a healthy weight now, but I really think some people do gain weight easier than others. Or lose it easier. Back then, I wouldn't have *_cared_* if I had gotten to be her size. But I didn't. I'm also part Islander (and part Japanese) and Islanders lived for thousands of years on a purely natural diet. So I think this group could be even more susceptible to the junk food available today, just like some of my Lakota friends have genes that make them more susceptible to alcoholism. And almost everyone knows someone, a friend or co-worker, who eats junk food all the time and rarely exercises and still stays thin. And lots of products on the market for people who want to GAIN weight and can't. I feel sad for this woman, and I wish her family well. I hope the kids raise their kids on healthy, natural food from the start, because that can help. [edit: Also I just found out she died. Sad story]

Well ultimately society is paying for this obesity crisis in higher rates for health insurance, more hospitalizations which Medicare or Medicaid pays for, lost wages, increased use of sick time. Society has got to give incentives for staying healthy rather than treating people when they’re sick - it’s a lot cheaper and a hell of a lot better. And sugar has got to go. As well as fast food. Or maybe if we as consumers demanded healthy high quality fast food - we’d get it.

u really are small minded. you do know that right??? first off obesity is a dieses, scientists have found 7 plus genetic cells, that can cause extreme obesity in animals in humans, most of the time its because of a mutation of the cell that causes it, one of them in particular is really bad because it literally makes it so the brain doesn't create the protein it needs to tell itself ur full when your stomach says it is, so you always feel hungry even after a huge meal. the other sides to obesity and usually trauma related, sexual assault at a young age, abuse, abandonment. those sorts of things. obesity isn't just oh well imma go eat 8 McDonalds double cheese burgers so I can get more fat. its literally mental and physical. It also really doesn't help that we live in a society where everything is processed and has high amounts of sugar or a forum of thick fat, which if you were to acquire food normally like humans use to you would never find half the things in food that u do today that make it so much worse for you. all industrialized countries should put money into a mass program to curb obesity by therapist and diet specialists to help those that are mentally ailed, but the thing is though is that those that are mentally ailed normally have the genetic conditions as well to make them huge so the only real way is some sort of gastric surgery weather that means the balloon or a band or clipping of the stomach to really fix the problem. its more expensive for everyone to treat those that are massively obese over there entire life span then it would be to get them help. so before you start rambling about how people are lazy and stupid and selfish do some research about the conditions that the people have because if it shows anything it shows that your more lazy then they are since you cant be bothered to further your intelligence even though your sitting at a computer and are a click away from not making your self look like a over privileged moron, that is pulling the human species down with there own mass stupidity.

Imagine if the Rx drugs prescribed for psychiatric disorders caused weight gain. Educate yourself on which receptors each Rx drug affects. The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) has studies and statistics on the real side effects of Rx drugs that Dr's will not advise patients of. I was stick thin my entire childhood, teen years, into my early 20's until Lithium caused rapid weight gain. I went from 120 lbs to over 300 lbs within 5 months! Now Dr's are concluding I've had an autonomic system disorder since childhood and telling me that I shouldn't have been on any pills ever. So it's a physical problem and never was mental. I wonder how many other people are misdiagnosed, drugged up, adopt a victim mentality based on any diagnosis, get fat not knowing how, and just give up on losing weight and life. Most of the excess weight I've worked hard to lose but it's different if you've been heavy as a child versus getting fat from a pill never having been fat until your early 20's. Idk it difficult to lose weight regardless.

If I saw a person getting out of a car who was THAT smooshed up to the steering wheel, I'd be tempted to tell them one, they are a danger on the road and two, it's unfair to share the road with everyone else. Anything that impairs your driving should be illegal--including being too fat to turn the wheel and otherwise navigate your vehicle then your license should be revoked. How is it fair to others driving on the road for you to drive impaired? To me it's nearly the same as a drunk thinking he/she should be allowed to drive anyway.

Yeah, if you could instantly strip all the excess fat and skin from one of these people they'd be incredibly strong. Carrying around all that weight... What they should do is wear a backpack or something all the time and add the same weight to that they lose from their body. When you've lost 10 lb you have a 10 lb backpack etc. By the end you'd be fit as fuck. But of course these people almost never actually lose the weight because they don't want to put in the work.

Yes, she has all the excuses in the book, and probably could be trying harder, but I think a key point here is when she says of Helen Clark "She's got no idea, until you've lived with it, you don't know." I think once obesity, living with it, and having an eating habit like this has been established, you're not so much looking at a weight issue that can be solved with diet and going to the gym, it should be approached almost the same way as disability and chronic illness. Yes, they gave Miranda a lot of help, Dr's and dieticians, but I didn't see any counselling, or mental health support happening to try and change a lifetime of thinking/doing a certain way that's got her to this point. We all go back to things/activities that we feel give our life meaning and make us feel better, which is all she has done. So, half the people in these comments - pot, kettle .... it's all relative, everyone's issues are 120% real and sometimes even overwhelming to them, you can't judge based on comparison.

Tracy Kungl LOL I am a nurse. I care for diabetics before they have their parts amputated and again for months after. I watch them have their family sneak in McDonald's and chocolates because we only feed them diabetic friendly meals. I have watched obese patients wait months for surgery for broken ankles because they are 500lbs and have to be 400 in order to repair the break, and all the while they lay in our bed, using tax payer dollars and medical staff resourceseven to change their diaper because they have allowed themselves to get so big they can't even stand up. I have to watch their family bring them in enough food to feed 3 people and guess what, they never lose the weight, they gain and sit in the hospital with a broken ankle because somehow that's better than having to eat the food provided for them in order to lose weight. You can say what you like. I watch it day in and day out. People are obese because of their own choices and should have to be the ones to pay and sweat to rectify what they have caused in themselves. It is not the governments job to fix something that is a personal choice.

I now weigh 190 lbs and have been able to keep it off. The only thing i do suffer and wish i could get the excess skin off. I would donate my excess skin to burn victims. Because of alot of excess skin it cuts real easy. The skin is so sensitive that it cracks and gets infected.

Let her go. Let her figure it out on her own. She’s had plenty of help that she does not appreciate. It’s up to her to live or die. If I was one of her kids, I would just leave.

"Big is beautiful, but I'm going to die". That is the schizophrenic attitude we have where people are so dedicated to saying everything is okay and that society is wrong, but then having to confront the reality that obesity is hideous and harmful. We'll celebrate a plus-size model in some clickbait article, then get emotional about some random person's weight loss journey. Jeez.

I think, for me, the plus size models should be able to be a model. But on The same coin, they should not promote obesity. But there should be someone modeling clothes that fat people can wear. These obese fat people should be able to be able to have a job, be a model, be an actor, musician, etc. They have rights to be in society too. But I don't promote obesity whatsoever, but I support the obese working force. Do I make sense? I don't think it's fair, people want fat people to hate them selves, and if they love themselves, it promotes obesity. But they need to love themselves. Not as is, but once you love yourself, and take strides to take care of yourself, you will lose weight. You will excersize. You will make healthy choices. Unless you're a feeder or whatever that fetish crap is, which is another world all together.

I don't share the same sympathy as many in the comments section do. She made her own life choices and she refused to do the right things even with large amounts of help. She was made well aware of the dangers of obesity and still decided not to care.
