Hello from Kazakhstan!!! Here is the story of the song: 1916 ... The 1st World War was on. The Russian Tsar issues a decree on the draft in the army of Kazakhs aged 19-39 years. Samal Tau is the song of those recruits. The area where the recruits came from was called Samal Tau. This is in the North Kazakhstan region. The name of the author is not preserved in the memory of the people. The song has the following words: “We’re tired, very tired for 15 days, we almost reached Omsk. Samal Tau was left behind, where I was born and raised. An unknown soldier’s life lies ahead. Elderly parents remained at home. How will they live without me?" The song also contains information about the age of the author. He is a little more than two mushels. He was born in the year of the cow. This means that he was born in 1888 and he is 28 years old.

Great reaction to Dimash singing Samaltau (Mountain of Spring Winds) at the Tokyo Jazz Festival. Great performance by Dimash. Loved the traditional instruments as well (kobyz en sybyzgy). Greetings from Amsterdam.

Dimash sings a kazakh song for the Jazzfestival in Tokio from his homestudio. With very old instruments. The instruments were used as signals and for hunt in the past. The song is about a kazakh son who mourns to leave his old parents alone, because he is forced to join the russian army for war. Chills!!!!! He sang this song only once and now he sang it again on his Birthday. I assume, because it's too sad. Samaltau is the name of the place the man is. What I love about Dimash... There is mostly a spiritual deep meaning in how he sings. The part you like should be a lament. In kazakh culture they use this way to lament in songs for express their grief and sorrow. One of them is called zhotkau and I believe he uses it in this one. Like he did something similar in sinful passion to honor the original kazakh singer that passed away. Thank you from 🇩🇪 and 🇮🇹

.. el aullido triste de los perros, los gritos de los pájaros y el ruido de la hierba de plumas de la estepa ilimitada...the dreary howl of dogs, the cry of birds and the noise of the feather grass of the boundless steppe... like that a lot of people feel this song.

These are traditional Instruments from Kazakhstan (you know Dimash is Kazakh)... The String Instrument is called "Kobyz" .. --> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Kazakhstan The Song Samal Tau means "Mountain Samal" it is a Mountain in Kazakhstan .. this Song is about a Soldier in World War I who was forced to leave his Country to go to a foreign Land .. he remembers the Mountain, the Sea, the Land, his Parents, what will they do without him, will he ever return? It is a sad Song about the Fate of Kazakh People .. Here at the Beginning you can see it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnPPhJScn7CooM0
