An unrelated conversation with Mark Losey ( / @marklosey7337 ) lead to the idea of hosting his documentary on what used to be the epicenter for competitive BMX in Greenville, North Carolina. Definitely a great piece that sums up a time in BMX with the people who made a massive impact on BMX as a whole. RIP Mirra & Winkelmann.
"How did a small town hidden in North Carolina become the epicenter of competitive action sports? And what happens when best friends become each other's main competition? With 34 pros and 21 Gold Medals, Greenville, North Carolina is unlike any town in any action sports."
WHAT IS OUR BMX?!
In short, we are the Ride BMX staff out on our own. We're building from the ground up and our goal is pretty simple. We want to continue what we love. We want to create great content, feature awesome riders, and contribute, push, and show why we love BMX. We sincerely appreciate any and all support... -Ryan Fudger, Jeff Zielinski, Adam Watkins, and Justin Benthien.

RIP Greenville. The Emerald City Has lost its lustre. First time I saw Dave ride I was walking to the bars tripping my balls off on Acid. It was night and he was riding the wall on 1st street kinda across from the town commons. The whole experience made me question reality. I kid you not. I was this is not humanly possible. I shared a back yard With Donnie god I can remember them fools had me woke up in the morning with the sound of him and his brother dropping in. Wow Donnie had a ramp even before this doc gives him credit for. I know for a fact he had one max latest would have been when I was 15 so in 83 1984 he always rode a scooter or whatever. Greenville was amazing. I mean I landscaped Dave's mansion then cut his grass as his regular house. Dave would go on golf trips with my pops and just old ass men. He said he would just chill and he couldn't play golf worth a piss and it really really bothered him he was that competitive. Nyquist sold me his original haro at a yard sale. He had wrecked it and hurt himself first time he rode it and he put a big ol lock and chain on it. Dude was so humble he sold that bike to me for 70 bucks. What a time to be alive. All these dudes were just awesome. No judgement in Greenville. Party hard for young whatever that was truly the attitude. PeaCe

I recall being the biggest Mike Dominguez fan...then came Matt Hoffman and wow, how he changed the sport! Then Dave started beating Matt at the X-Games and how could you not love this guy? Amazing style, incredible airs and ballsy like nobody's business. These guys and many more have progressed the sport to a level I never thought was possible when I rode back in the 80's. This was an excellent video, thanks for all involved who put it together. Dave was a legend of legends, RIP

@Runescape.
@Runescape. 3 жыл бұрын
yeah because for these guys when they get old they cant do the one thing they love anymore. BMX takes more of a toll on you than skaeboarding or any other xtreme sport. when the bike hits you or you crash over the bars you get really screwed up. so these guys get older and cant compete anymore, cant do the same tricks anymore. go watch the tony hawk video of him at 50 years old trying to do the 900 again, he falls like 30 times and is about to give up. because when you get older you just cant do what you did when you were younger. these guys got to see the best times and the worst times and unfortunately they cant handle the bad times.

I was down visiting Jaycee Park on Tuesday. It was great to walk such a legendary spot. I had the privilege of hanging out with Scott Wirch and Scooter Don a few years ago while I was photographing the Trans Jam BMX tour. Good guys for sure. It's a shame I didn't get the chance to meet Dave, but still...it's awesome to be close to where so many legends got their start. Long live BMX.

Dave and Haro saved BMX in the 90s and early 2000s like Eddie Fiola did for GT and Woody Itson did did for Hutch Trevor Hernandez and the rest of the OGs in the late 70s and 80s but those guys from the '80s even though they did set the bar will never be as good as technical and as fearless as Dave mirra or Ryan Nyquist or Matt Hoffman or any of those guys. If you've never visited this town and you're on the East Coast then it's a must check it out. Greenville North Carolina is awesome. I'm from Charleston South Carolina which isn't but a few hours away. These guys revolutionized BMX as we know it today right down the road from my house. I'm 49 years old and still ride. Great video guys one of the best I've seen so far

We had same scene but with skateboarding thru the 80’s. I had a schwinn “predator” bmx always dreaming of the Hutch “Trickstar” but we fell in love with the skateboard. I always wanted bmx to grow but we were from a small town and couldnt afford $1k for bikes! We just needed $50 bux every couple weeks for a new deck & tape and we were good. We had local a shop/park with 6’ half pipe, 4’ spine ramp,& 10’ vert ramp & it was heaven! I miss the 80’s so bad because this was the best of times!#RememberWhen#BMX#🛹#the80’sRule

i always loved dave mirra. ever since i was a little hoodlum bmx'r in the mean streets on NY thinking i was the man when i could jump higher than anyone else on the dirt ramps we had all over town. (but i couldnt 360 to save my life).. I never knew Dave Mirra was the reason Greenville was on the map. I also never knew he was from NY. i figured he was from Cali like almost everyone else. To watch this though was awesome. so much awesome knowledge packed into this video. whoever made it is amazing. and so many people love it. Bmx will always be my life. even though i havent had a bike since it was stolen a few years ago, and now im so hurt at 34 y/o that i can barely walk most days. But that bmx mindset will always be who i am. and it was because of dave mirra and ryan nyquist more than any other pro name. RIP Dave Mirra. RIP Colin Winkelman NEVER forgotten.
