Sailing the mirror dinghy with a new crew in fresh breeze, a lot of fun, a bit of surfing, a gracious capsize and a quick recovery.

Just loved that Mirror dinghy hull to water relationship - it gave the feeling of being part of the sea. And beautifully responsive. Fortunately, as I only ever sailed for pleasure and not competitively, I never managed to capsize.

Don't let the Mirror's stability make you careless - cautionary tale. I hadn't noticed the excess main sheet rope tangled around my feet. We capsized and I couldn't free my feet as they were tied together and to the toe straps - the boat inverted really fast, I ended up face down, gunwale on my back, head just above water. My crew was too light to right the boat. I was starting to think about taking my bouyancy aid off and ducking under the boat to try to free my feet when the club rescue boat got to us. They pulled my boat onto it's side and then I was able to free my feet from the tangle. Don't let the stability make you careless. Watching that capsize bought the memory back 40 years later. I still sail but choose boats with less side bouyancy.

a lot of old sailors always carried a knife strapped around their chest, but if its not got Nike or adidas logo on, its all nonsense, old school know best.

That was awesome! You were flying! You were also really calm during the capsize and recovery. All very slick and proficient!

Hi I've just bought myself a GP14 and joined to clubs so I can learn, no disrespect to the clubs iv joined, but there are way too much enfasis on learning the names of the boat, what about people that have severe learning difficulties, like myself, that's all I want to do is to be able to, I chatted with the RYA Hampshire office, they said they help people with learning disabilities, but that's all I seem to do is dispense money to these sailing clubs, and get no help in return, I'd rather tip.my dengue over, a load of times, and learn not to be fearful, and correct the problem guys every sport as an element of danger, if we live in fear, we will never do anything in our lives guys. By the way I loved watching these guys right theyer dinghy, hands on experience is better than any theory for people with learning disabilities like myself.

How do you have your spinnaker set up and pole? Looks like you have no cam Cleats?
